The Red Door Singer Songwriter Competition final took place night – we have a new Farida Endorsee…
Last night saw the final of the Red Door Singer Songwriter Competition, after five weeks of heats, and countless stunning performances.
To say that it has been a hotly contested affair is something of an understatement. Each of the five heats has been a closely fought event, with an embarrassment of talent on display.
The last heat saw Jess Gardham join Pariss Elektra, Jon Kenzie, She Drew The Gun, and Rory Charles for the final.
With a line up of talented artists that guaranteed a night of impossibly good music, the panel of judges were set a tough task to pick between them.
But, there could only be one new Farida endorsee.
After much discussion, deliberation and thoughtful contemplation, a winner was picked.
Congratulations to new Farida Endorsee, Jon Kenzie!
Jon Kenzie joins the Farida roster
In the end, though it was always going to be a close thing, Jon Kenzie’s skilfully honed songs, with their blend of folk, jazz, and blues underpinned by a uniquely charismatic wit that won the judges over.
However, with artists of such astonishing quality, any of the finalists would have been a worthy winner.
Jon joins the Farida roster of endorsees, which includes the likes of Frank Turner, Sam Halliday, Bombay Bicycle Club, James Morrison, Freddie Cowan and more.
The runner up prize, which was switched to a recording session at Pluto Studios in Cheshire (courtesy of Stage Life management), was won by Rory Charles and Jess Gardham picked up the Roland RC-30 in third place.
We’d like to thank everyone who performed in the competition, or who submitted an entry. We enjoyed listening to your music. We’d also like to thank our friends at Red Door, Roland and Stage Life, without whom the event would not have taken place.
As for Jon Kenzie- you’ll no doubt be reading and hearing more about the new Farida endorsee very soon… Stay posted 😉
