The BOSS Limited Edition 40th Anniversary DS-1-4A Distortion Effects Pedal is an extra special release from the Japanese giant to mark the 40th year in producing their legendary compact pedals. Originally introduced in 1978, the DS-1 was released as part of BOSS' second wave of compact pedals. However, this limited edition version departs from the eye catching orange finish, and instead adopts a sleek black body with striking gold lettering, gold-capped knobs, and a vintage silver thumbscrew for the battery compartment. The meticulous detail extends to the box, which features the BOSS 40th Anniversary logo, and will be available in 2017 only.
Classic BOSS DS-1 Distortion
The BOSS DS-1 Distortion pedal is a timeless little beauty that set the standard for others to follow, has fought off competition for nearly four decades, and still finds its way into the hearts of many a guitar player, including: Mike Stern, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai – quite an illustrious list. The DS-1 provides a sharper distortion than a standard overdrive pedal, and isn't just suitable for electric guitar, but also other instruments. Instead of toneless, fuzzy distortion, the DS-1 faithfully reproduces the delicacies of your dynamic playing style - whatever the volume level, and even when the distortion is up at full. Whether you’re playing lighting fast single notes or chords, articulation and harmonic complexity is upheld with the utmost clarity.
Simple yet versatile control
The simple design and control layout of the pedal belies the incredibly complex range of tones that can be pulled from the DS-1. The available distortion tones start from lighter crunchy sounds (think blues and rock), but go all the way to heavier sounds that are perfect for metal. Some people use this pedal as a booster/extra distortion pedal for the most extreme lead tones and powerful solos. The increased sustain and feedback you can get by cranking up the DS-1 into your drive channel works well on stage, making sure you are in control of those effects when you need them.
As you’d expect from BOSS, the chassis is built to withstand heavy shelling, more than adequate for practising and performing with. To give you even further reassurance, the DS-1 comes with BOSS’ 5-year warranty. So whether you simply wish to play solos at home, or take over the world one stage at a time, BOSS has you covered.
