The Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor is a compact pedal built to tackle the noise generated many guitar effect and processor pedals. The reasons for noise vary, but the effect is always the same: a messy guitar sound that detracts from your playing. The NS2 works quite like a gate, but it is more advanced than a simple gate, detecting noise while making sure the natural attack and decay envelope of your playing is not affected by the noise suppression.
Pedals that can often cause noise include overdrive, distortion, flangers and various other modulation effects. The NS-2 can be tweaked to reduce the impact of these pedals on your performance, because the offenders are often great sounding pedals and rather than lose the pedal, you can kick in the Boss NS-2 and kill the noise instead.
Threshold sets the level where the noise suppression activates and decay sets how quickly after the last note played the suppression kicks in. The mode knob lets you choose between noise reduction (where the noise reduction only activates below the threshold), and mute mode (where the noise reduction is in constant operation, and below the threshold the NS2 acts as a muting gate). The Boss NS-2 simply adds a professional cleanliness to your sound that will make you sound tighter, more rhythmic and your tone will me less messy.
