The Boss OC-3 Super Octave pedal delivers true-polyphonic high quality octave effects in the form of the instantly recognisable Boss stompbox. As we've come to expect from the team at Boss, the quality of the signal processing is nothing short of extraordinary, offering complex tonal manipulation in a simple to use interface. Not only that, but the unit is built like an absolute tank, so no matter what you throw at it, you can rest assured that it will keep coming back for more - perfect for amateurs and professionals alike.
OC-3 Super Octave options
The OC-3 takes on from its predecessor the OC-2, and offers further tonal sculpting for you to enjoy. As ever, the classic Boss Octaver sounds are present with the sound of the effect controllable using the Oct 1 Level pot. However, the OC-3 also offers a three-mode selector between: Poly, Oct 2, and Drive - with a corresponding Range knob.
Not only can you create the beloved "dual octave" effect as before, but you can blend three individual sounds simultaneously: the original note, a note one octave below, and one that's two octaves below for some truly fat and thick tones. The Poly mode is great for focusing the octave effect on the lowest strings, giving you a deep bottom-end energy, whilst the higher notes remain unaffected. If you're a fan of creating spacious sounding power chords that can be mixed in with choppy high-end chords, then you're in for a treat.
The Drive mode injects classic Boss overdrive into your signal for a significantly more aggressive tone. Whether you're looking to recreate some classic overdriven funk, blues, heavy rock tones, all you need to do is switch to Drive mode and dial in the level of overdrive you want - nice and easy.
Bass guitar friendly
Though the Super Octave gives you the chance to fill your tone with a sweet low-end vibe, bassists will be pleased to know that they don't have to miss out on the fun. The OC-3 has inputs for both electric guitar and bass, and the OC-3 instantly registers which input is active and optimises itself to suit the frequency range of the instrument. The same modes are made available, which means that you have everything you could need to create anything from sweet octaves to monstrous walls of noise. What more could you want?
The Boss OC-3 Super Octave guitar effects pedal deserves a place on every self-respecting guitarist/bassist's pedalboard. Whether used independently, or as part of an elaborate rig, the OC-3 bears the Boss name proudly, and takes you octave-driven tone-shaping capabilities to new heights.
