The Boss VO-1 Vocoder stompbox provides you with a wealth of synthesizer voices to enhance your very own human voice, ideal for a live musician looking to experiment with some new sounds. As you play guitar or bass, the VO-1 Vocoder works as you make sounds into a microphone, allowing you to revolutionise and extend the range of your instrument using Boss’ outstanding guitar synth technology. Whether you’re singing or just talking with your instrument, the VO-1 effectively transforms your output entirely in real time.
The Vocoder is easy to use with a stompbox pedal and combined with simple control dials, and is a welcome addition to a guitarist’s effects rig. For many years it has proven difficult for a guitarist to enjoy the advantages of a vocoder as there has been somewhat limited access, until now of course thanks to the Boss VO-1.
The VO-1 Vocoder is battery-operated and is powered by new and updated Boss technology to help you to reach new sonic heights. There are four main control dials for Level, Blend, Tone and Colour paired with four additional modes at your disposal.
Level and Blend controls have charge of the overall volume and the direct / effect mix, while Tone and Colour pair up with the chosen mode to give you an extensive variation of sounds. The pedal is equipped with Send and Return jacks in case you decide to plug in an external effects pedal and apply it directly.
Four additional modes are included via an easy-to-use dial. Talk Box mode quite literally gives your guitar / bass a range of “talking” lead tones without having to use an external talk box pedal. Advanced mode offers a myriad of new vocoder tones, all of which sound crystal clear, while Vintage mode as the name may suggest gives you classic, quintessential electronic synth-voices. Choir mode also produces a resonant range of vocal sounds without having to connect the microphone. An effects loop further improves your sound and works wonders alongside the regular pedals used in your rig.
The Boss VO-1 Vocoder is built using state-of-the-art technology but by no means does that suggest it isn’t simple to use. Once you’re connected with a mic, you are opening up a world of new and classic synth-voices. Go ahead and express yourself with this creative little stompbox.
