For several decades, the classic Big Muff Pi pedal has been a well-revered piece of kit among guitarists. Electro Harmonix have taken this pedal up a notch by including the Tone Wicker, allowing you to reproduce that vintage Big Muff Pi sound. As you would expect, this is a versatile, fuzzy distortion pedal that offers plenty of tone.
At the top of the pedal there are three simple controls for Volume, Tone and Sustain. Perhaps the most interesting of the three is the Sustain control which essentially is the distortion control of the pedal. This allows you to choose the amount of distortion or fuzz you would like to hear. Even when the distortion is turned right up, you won't lose out on tone, ensuring each and every riff sounds amazing.
Electro Harmonix have also included two toggle switches, Tone and Wicker. These two, combined with the three control knobs above can really open up a whole world of sound combinations. The Tone toggle switch can either be set to On or Off. By turning the Tone off, this takes the Tone control out of the circuit completely, so you have bigger volume and fuller sound.
Alternately, by switching the Tone on and the Wicker off, this instantly gives you vintage, original Big Muff Pi sound. Whereas, by having the Wicker set to On, this opens up three high frequency filters, giving you a brighter sound yet with plenty of noise as you can imagine.
Electro Harmonix are kings when it comes to designing easy-to-use pedals with lots of versatile tone options, and the Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker is an essential distortion pedal.
