The Epiphone G-400 Pro electric guitar has been designed to deliver an affordable model of one of the most popular guitars in history, the mighty SG. Setting the standard with regard to creating a brutal sonic assault, rockers, hard rockers, and metal players all took to the SG, embracing its delightfully dark character and unabashed delivery. With the G-400 Pro, everyone has the ability to take advantage of those classic SG tones, without the vintage price tag to go with it. Not only that, but thanks to some Epiphone wizardry, the new Alnico Pro humbuckers have coil-tapping abilities, to give you even more versatility than before.

The Epiphone G-400 Pro is inspired by the late ‘60s era SG models, and utilises the same dimensions as that Kalamazoo factory legend, making it lightweight, yet incredibly robust. This helps to produce a well-balanced guitar, which is incredibly important when you're performing. The body is made from mahogany, and shaped to the instantly recognisable double-cutaway “two-horned” shape. The robust character of the mahogany ensures a thick midrange character, but the slender body shape means that it is very comfortable to play.

Fitted to the body is a sturdy set mahogany neck, featuring the well-known SlimTaper "D" profile that gives it a delightfully comfortable playing feel. Paired with the neck is a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, keeping things true to the original specification that this model is based on. Classic SG looks are further conveyed with the trapezoid inlays along the length of the fingerboard. Wilkinson tuners uphold tuning integrity rigorously, whilst staying true to the vintage SG style.

Two Alnico Classic Pro humbuckers are fitted to the Epiphone G-400 Pro, with a meaty character that yields sweet humbucker sustain, and provides a massive dynamic range. Not only that but Epiphone have expanded the tonal versatility of the pickups by including coil-tapping on both pickups via push/pull volume controls. As well as this, each pickup has an individual tone control, and a 3-way pickup selector switch that gives you an enormous range of options to play with.

As you’d expect from the team at Epiphone, the G-400 Pro comes fitted with the highest quality appointments to seal its impressive overall fit and finish. The strings are held fast by the LockTone tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, working well to guarantee that string intonation is maintained precisely. All-metal hardware is employed across all control knobs, and full-size 500kOhm pots ensure that adjustment is smooth, and allows the pots to last for as long as possible.

Whether you’re just starting out, or have many years of guitar playing under your belt, the Epiphone G-400 Pro electric guitar will blow you away. The exquisite finish is matched by a very comfortable playing feel, which is topped off beautifully by the astounding tonal versatility and raw energy of the Alnico humbuckers.

Great build quality for under 300quid (heck great build quality for under 500quid)
Lots of features. The coil tapping really gives a wide range of sounds.
500k pots give better response than the 250k pots you would get on other dearer guitars.
The lock tone bridge sounds a gimick but does make for easier string changes.
Hard to see why I would spend 600quid on a new base level Gibson.
I may not have many years playing but I couldn't feel where the extra 320quid was.
If you were thinking of a new SG then take a look at the G400pro and spend the change on a new amp........
