Since it's introduction in 1958, the Epiphone Texan has been the choice of many musicians around the world. Now, Epiphone brings back the Texan combining all the great features of the original and builds in some modern features for today's musician.
A classic sloped-shoulder shape
Different to standard dreadnoughts, the Epiphone Texan comes complete with a more rounded upper bout and a larger lower bout with a subtle waist. Resembling a bell shape, this leads to a much more balanced tone that's perfect for singers, songwriters and other performers. Like the original, the new Epiphone 1964 Texan features a premium solid Spruce top with a solid Mahogany back and Mahogany rims.
Solid woods resonate beautifully and improve with age. The neck is solid Mahogany topped with a Rosewood fingerboard complete with the original parallelogram inlays. Hand-fitted and glued into the body, the neck features Epiphone's SlimTaper neck profile that's comfortable and easy to play. Keeping the guitar in tune are original-style but updated 14:1 ratio vintage tuners with classic small oval buttons. Epiphone has even reproduced the original blue rectangular sound hole label from the 1960's for yet another touch of authenticity.
New and improved features
On this new rendition, the saddle has been updated to feature a fixed, compensated saddle. Unlike the original adjustable style, this saddle provides improved tuning accuracy and better string vibration transfer to the top resulting in improved tone and sustain. And for today's player, Epiphone adds Shadow's state-of-the-art Sonic preamp system with the revolutionary under-saddle NanoFlex low-impedance pickup to allow acoustic players to "plug in." Discretely mounted inside the sound hole, the Sonic preamp features an easy-access volume control with high and low EQ controls.
The Nanoflex pickup is capable of sensing both the vibrations of the strings and the movements of the soundboard simultaneously. The sound is truly "acoustic" combining accurate body and string tone with percussive attack. It's like having a microphone mixed with an under saddle pickup! Due to active amplification directly at the pickup and 100% shielding of the entire system, there is no signal loss and no "hum" created. A battery indicator LED turns on when the battery is low and should be replaced within 30 minutes. Powered by two 2032 lithium batteries, the complete system is extremely light and weighs far less than ordinary 9V systems.
