Since its inception in the ‘60s, the Riviera has retained its classic ES, semi-hollow body design, but seen sporting many different pickups, such as humbuckers, mini-humbuckers and P-90s. It has also been used in many different genres, gracing the hands of Otis Rush, Lou Reed (Velvet Underground), and Nick Valensi (The Strokes).

The most recent iteration of the Riviera, the Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 shows off the guitar to its full capacity, both musically and aesthetically, with three “Dogear” Alnico-V P-90 pickups, a Bigsby B70 tremolo, and a beautiful wine red finish with gold hardware.

The body of the Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Electric Guitar is made from premium-laminated maple with a mahogany centre block. The guitar’s neck is constructed from mahogany and sports a 24.75” scale length and is carved to the popular SlimTaper “D” profile. Atop this is a rosewood fingerboard, measuring 1.68” at the nut, with 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid parallelogram inlays. A period-correct ‘60s Epiphone logo adorns the headstock.

Giving voice to its beautiful body are three Epiphone Dog-ear classic P-90 pickups with Alnico V magnets. Finite control is available with a volume knob per pickup, a master tone control and a three-way pickup selector switch. The selector switch allows you to alternate between the neck and bridge, while the middle can be blended in as much or as little as you want with its volume control knob.

The hardware fitted on the Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Electric Guitar is definitely worth a mention as it comes supplied with a LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge, Bigsby B70 tremolo and premium 14:1 ratio Wilkinson machine heads. In addition all hardware is completed in a gold finish.

The Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 electric guitar is a remarkable model with many professional-grade appointments that make it incredibly reliable, both in the way it plays and the tones it produces. Whether you’re an amateur or a touring professional, this wonderful model would make a welcome addition to any guitarist’s collection.

Posted on 07/09/2018 by Excellent all rounder, the p90’s are great for just about anything. Wonder if middle one is reverse wound as it quietens the bridge pickups hum a bit when used. Neck pickup I barely use, sounds way too muddy.
There seems to be a tonne of these on the used market, people buying them but not keeping them. Other than that neck pickup (I rarely use it) sounding muddy what’s not to like?
Posted on 17/12/2017 by bought it shop soiled changed the middle vol pot for a matching on off switch loads simpler to use live. ive been a giggin musician for 55 years had many top notch guitars in my collection this guitar is as good as a lot of more higher priced rivals but when playing and singing at the same time it makes it a lot easier to flick a switch than rotating the middle volume pot
Posted on 08/09/2017 by I bought this as a total beginner. I wanted an instrument whose quality would help me overcome my inadequacy as a learner and not get in my way. This instrument gives me an excellent introduction into the world of guitar playing and when I am good enough, my next instrument will be a Memphis built Gibson. (Along with a Marshall valve amp.
Posted on 17/08/2017 by I agree with the other reviewers, this guitar is a stunner visually and the sounds are exactly what I was looking for. My gripe is that it is very difficult these days to get a new guitar to play well straight out of the box. On this occasion the action didn't look too bad on first glance. However on closer inspection the neck had a reverse bow, which can be easily rectified, however this raises the action and if you like a low action you have a problem. You cannot just lower the bridge as the pickups on this guitar are fixed to a wooden block and unlike other pickups which have adjustment screws each side of the pickup to raise or lower the pickup height, the bridge pickup on this guitar is quite high and prevents the strings being lowered very far. I had to take the rear pickup off and reduce the wood block height and reassemble. Also three of the saddles were fitted back to front. However the guitar now plays beautifully with a lovely low action and if I had received it like that I would give it a 10 out of 10.
Posted on 20/03/2017 by This guitar looks absolutely stunning. Picked it up in the sale for £354, which is so cheap for the kind of guitar you're buying. Plays really well and stays in tune when using the bigsby. Compared to the Dot, this guitar has more body and the pickups have a higher output.
Posted on 10/03/2016 by Best guitar I've ever had, easy to play, caught my eye as soon as I went into the shop so I had to buy it.
Posted on 21/07/2015 by This is an awesome guitar for the price. It looks even better than the pictures here! Feels and plays great.
Posted on 26/05/2015 by Beautiful looks and plays stunning, I seen this hanging in shop I was drawn to it right away. Sound awesome, but I connect to my boss me-80 fx pedal and there is nothing this guitar can't do. iI makes you want to play and brings the best out in you.
Posted on 30/03/2015 by Such a great guitar I thought it was priced up wrong...£379. Unbelievable....
Posted on 27/01/2015 by Yes. This guitar kicks. I love P90 pickups, saw this guitar hanging on the wall, and bought it up quickly (after playing it for a while, and finding out it's AMAZING). I love the tonal combinations you can get with this guitar. The bigsby is an added bonus/beautiful sounding, especially with swells/verb. I cannot say enough good things about this guitar. I was one of those 'I'm never buying an Epiphone guys' but have been proven wrong wrong wrong. Beautiful sounding/looking guitar. I want to buy a second and put in 3 different TV jones pickups.
Posted on 18/04/2014 by This guitar looks and plays well. It is however unforgiving to those who do not apply to correct pressure on the fretboard, simply because the action is difficult to 'get right'. You need to spend some time adjusting those gold coils which is simple as it can be easily done by hand. Once the buzzing noise has gone and your strings are not too high it has an epic range of sounds. The tremolo is great just watch out after using it too many times in quick succession this can slightly de-tune your guitar. Great price and prompt delivery.. 8/10
Posted on 24/03/2014 by Bought one of these a few weeks back, cannot say a bad thing about it. Plus it looks stunning!
Posted on 04/02/2014 by What a beautiful guitar, feels very well made and has a beautiful finish. I love the gold hardware, awesome sounding guitar, killer looks and sound. Happy Chappy!
Posted on 29/05/2012 by I bought one of these and love it, the range of sounds you can get from it is all you can ask for. Looks cool and sounds cool.
