The Epiphone Limited Edition Tommy Thayer White Lightning Explorer Outfit introduces the third instalment in the collaboration between Epiphone and KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer. Inspired by his White Lightning Les Paul, the Explorer features similar appointments, and that same mesmerising custom Metallic White finish. Each model is supplied with a specially designed hard case, unique studded leather strap, and a hand-signed certificate of authenticity.
Awesome Explorer body
To guarantee an uncompromisingly powerful tone, the body is crafted using mahogany to guarantee a robust tonal foundation with plenty of warmth. Shaped to the legendary Explorer shape, the angular body is well balanced, and a joy to wield. Finished in custom metallic white, the body is home to a chrome-metal pickguard, which is complemented by black and white body binding.
Solid mahogany neck
Paired with the body is a durable mahogany neck, which is reinforced using a glued-in mortise and tenon joint. Shaped to the 1960's SlimTaper D profile, the neck offers an easy to grip, fast playing feel in the hand. Married to the neck is a delightful torrefied composite fingerboard, which is designed to guarantee consistency throughout the most demanding of performances. Pearloid dot position inlays guide your way in style, whilst single-ply white binding ensures a smooth feel along the entire length of the fingerboard.
God of thunder
In keeping with Thayer's wishes, Epiphone have equipped the White Lightning Explorer with Seymour Duncan JB humbuckers with chrome mounting rings in the neck position, and a JB "open-coil" with white bobbins in the bridge position. Inspired by legends such as Jimmy Page and Duane Allman, the open-coil humbuckers found their tone had greater "bite" with the covers removed. Inspired by this approach, Thayer has adopted the same setup, and the result is an astonishing sonic output that is the stuff of dreams.
In keeping with the all-white body finish, white "Top Hat" control knobs are installed for adjusting each pickup's volume and tone, whilst Epiphone's all-metal three-way pickup selector switch with chrome cap and metal washer seals the deal.
The Explorer headstock is loaded with mini-Grover Rotomatics, which offer professional-level stability thanks to the steadfast 18:1 gear ratio. The body is home to the LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, which work together to optimise intonation and sustain. As noted above, each model is supplied with a custom white hard case with plush lining to guarantee that your guitar is safe from harm when on the move - and looks awesome in the process. The hand-signed certificate of authenticity gives you confidence in the quality craftsmanship that has gone into this model, whilst you can rest assured that should anything happen, you are covered by Epiphone's Limited Lifetime Guarantee, as well as Gibson's 365/24/7 Customer Service.
