The Epiphone Limited Edition James Bay Signature "1966" Century Guitar in Cherry is a faithful recreation of the GRAMMY nominee's model of choice for writing and touring. As Bay himself stated, 'the older a guitar gets, the more difficult it is to maintain on tour...so getting an Epiphone signature model is a childhood dream come true' - and now everyone has the chance to own one of these superb models.
Beautiful 1966 hollowbody
Bay's own "1966" Century has been customized to suit his playing style, but it remains true to the classic, lightweight hollowbody shape. In keeping with that look and feel, Epiphone employed 3-ply laminated maple as the tonewood of choice, which also acts as a resilient shield against changes in humidity and temperature (something touring musicians encounter daily). The maple reacts sweetly to the hollowbody design, creating a lushly textured acoustic timbre that sings beautifully. A cherry gloss finish has been applied, which is paired with a cream binding on the body top and back.
Durable mahogany neck
Fitted to the body using a secure mortise and tenon joint reinforced by glue, is a durable mahogany neck with identical "C" shape profile and dimensions as those found on Bay's model. Paired with the neck is a luxurious rosewood fingerboard with mahogany heel cap, which is adorned with mother of pearl dot position inlays to guide your way. At the top of the neck is a Delrin (ivory coloured) nut, which leads to the historic sloped dovewing headstock inlaid with a period-correct "Epiphone" logo in gold. The back of the headstock features a James Bay "Hat Man" logo, as well as James Bay's serial number #385143.
Kinman "Sweet Neck" pickup
As with Bay's own model, the Limited-Edition James Bay Signature "1966" Century archtop is equipped with the same hand-wound Kinman "Sweet Neck" P-90 Hx Noiseless single-coil pickup. The Kinman is a no nonsense, "no hum" pickup that delivers a brilliant output that allows the hollowbody's tones to shine. Control over the pickup comes in the form of master volume, and master tone controls featuring black top hat knobs with metal inserts, and USA-made CTS potentiometers. The level of control is remarkable, and the dynamic range afforded by this setup is enviable.
Bay's aim with this model was to find a suitable replacement for his touring guitar, so every effort was made to secure hard-working hardware that would easily cope with the demands of a rigorous schedule. The headstock is home to Wilkinson Vintage machine heads with a 14:1 tuning ratio and plastic ivory buttons, which uphold string tuning dutifully throughout each and every performance. The body is hope to a recreated floating rosewood bridge with brass adjustment wheels, which is partnered with a trapeze tailpiece. The period correct long white pickguard with raised metal "E" Epiphone logo protects against unwanted picks and scrapes to preserve the body finish. The 1/4-inch jack is built by Switchcraft, so you can rest assured that it is of the highest possible quality.
Each model of the Epiphone Limited Edition James Bay Signature "1966" Century Guitar in Cherry is supplied with a '60s-style hard case, is fitted with D'Addario strings, has a certificate of authenticity, a hand-signed James Bay photo, and a recreation of Bay's very own custom homemade guitar strap. As if that wasn't enough, you also get Epiphone's Limited Lifetime Warranty, as well as access to Gibson's 24/7/365 customer service to complete this excellent package.
