The first Masterbilt archtops were released in the 1930s by Epiphone, and they have been crafting a fantastic range of these models ever since. These archtops are well-known for their ability to produce a compelling, warm tone. Epiphone have now revived the classic archtop in the form of the Masterbilt De Luxe guitar, using proven techniques combined with top quality, modern acoustic onboard electronics. The Masterbilt guitar will astound you with its incredible acoustic voice, that sings out much more than your average flat top acoustic, opening up a whole new universe of sound.
The first thing to note about the body of the Masterbilt De Luxe guitar is that it is constructed to very specific measurements; 17 inch lower bout, 12.6 inch upper bout, 10.25 inch waist, and 21 inch body length. These unique dimensions with the addition of a round soundhole work together to produce a full-bodied tone, one which is much punchier than a common flat-top. To give you more volume, it has a solid spruce top strengthened with longitudinal bracing, joined with a laminated flame maple body, all with 3-layer ivory and black coloured binding to complement the aged gloss finish. A large imitation tortoise pickguard sits next to the soundhole to protect the body against scratches, but also completes the visual appearance of the guitar.
The Masterbilt De Luxe is firmly fitted with a 5-piece laminated hard maple and mahogany neck via a glued-in dovetail joint, enabling it to sound like a single piece of wood rather than five pieces. The neck is given a full, rounded "C" profile for a comfortable grip. Topping the 25.5 inch scale length neck is an ebony fingerboard with 20 medium frets, decorated with pearloid notched diamond inlays to guide you, just like the old Masterbilts.
To amplify this stunning guitar, it is equipped with the modern eSonic HD preamp system with an under-saddle Shadow NanoFlex HD pickup. This means you can play it naturally in your own home or studio without an amp, but it also enables you to play onstage through a PA system of your choice, without altering its true voice.
The Shadow NanoFlex HD pickup features simple controls to shape your sound output by means of the Master Volume and Master EQ controls which are found just beneath the round soundhole. The eSonic HD preamp is powered by a 9V battery situated by the 1/4 inch output jack.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
Period-correct hardware is appointed to complete the Masterbilt De Luxe guitar, such as the Historic Epiphone Reissue Tuners with Marboloid "Crown" buttons on the headstock. The tuners have also been upgraded to an 18:1 gear ratio for quicker, more accurate tuning. The headstock has the historic Epiphone dovewing shape with a pearloid banner logo reading "Epiphone De Luxe Masterbilt".
This model also has a superb dual action truss rod, unlike other vintage archtops, which makes it very easy to set up.
Treat yourself to this beautiful acoustic-electric model, a guitar which is beyond compare.
