With its distinctive body shape being something of a mix of some of Epiphone’s classic archtops (Dot, Sheraton, Casino) and with nearly 20 years of gigging all over the world under its belt, the Epiphone PR5-E Electro-Acoustic Guitar is already something of modern day classic.
As mentioned above the exceptionally beautiful body shape at the centre of the Epiphone PR5-E Electro-Acoustic Guitar’s design is modelled after ES-335-style guitars. From this design, it has inherited a particularly large lower bout, which provide extra focus to lower frequencies as well as producing solid mids. Also of note when considering the guitar’s shape is the Florentine/sharp cutaway, which both looks incredible along and gives excellent access to even the uppermost frets.
The body is constructed from a combination of a premium select spruce top, which benefits from a hand-scalloped, proprietary X-bracing pattern, and a mahogany body that incorporates a slightly arched back, for comfort and a sweeter tone.
SlimTaper Neck – Perfect for Gigging
The Epiphone PR5 E Electro-Acoustic Guitar has a scale length of 25.5-inches, which includes a select mahogany neck, carved to the incredibly comfortable SlimTaper profile; making it perfect for long gigs and extended practice sessions. Atop this you’ll find a rosewood fingerboard with split-diamond, pearloid position inlay markers. This leads up to the classic Sloped Dovewing headstock, which is equipped with a set of gold Grover tuners; known for their incredible tuning accuracy and stability.
Although the Epiphone PR5E Electro-Acoustic Guitar has been around for some time now, updates have been made to ensure you get the best experience possible. One such update is the inclusion of the Epiphone eSonic preamp and NanoFlex pickup system, which has been designed with Shadow.
Part of what this new addition brings is a really handy built-in tuner, which has a gig-friendly feature that mutes the guitar’s output when the when it is engaged for professional tuning and the elimination of the terrible popping sound. You can also use this feature when unplugging the guitar by pressing the tuner button in. The preamp also offers Master Volume, Bass, Treble, EQ Shape (Dynamics slider), and a Phase switch to help eliminate feedback, along with a Low Battery indicator.
Moving away from traditional 9V batteries, the Epiphone PR5-E Electro-Acoustic Guitar requires just two 2032 lithium watch batteries, which, along with being a lot lighter, also last a lot longer.
The other part of the electronics utilised in the creation of the Epiphone PR5-E, is the NanoFlex low-impedance pickup. Crafted with a flexible sensing material that incorporates active electronics, which, in its position under the guitar’s saddle, provides a more accurate representation of the instrument’s unplugged tone, as it captures the sound of the strings’, body’s, and top’s vibrations for a beautiful acoustic tone.
