Details

The Epiphone Toby Standard IV bass guitar has the perfect balance of smooth playability, ferocious tonal power, and a stunning finish. Following their earlier collaboration with the bass designer and builder Michael Tobias, Epiphone have created a more affordable version than their previous Deluxe model, so that even more players can experience and own a Toby.

Shapely Body Contours

Just by looking at the Toby Standard IV, it is clear to see that this is a model that smashes the notion of traditional design - it looks more like a piece of conceptual art than a gig-ready bass. The ergonomically designed body shape is contoured to make it as comfortable to play as possible, with deep double-cutaways to allow access to the entire neck and fingerboard.

The comfortable body shape may look delicate, but you can rest assured that it is more than capable of standing up to anything you can throw at it. Constructed from radiata, the body is as sturdy and rugged as they come. Radiata also has the enviable quality of being a medium weight wood that produces a rich, balanced tonal output. From thumping lows, through a punchy midrange, to crisp and sparking highs, basswood is very generous with its offerings.

Fast-playing Neck

The Toby benefits from one of the most comfortable neck profiles ever crafted. The asymmetrical design means that the neck is thinner on the lower side than it is on the upper side, giving the back a less bulky, more manageable feel. Not only does this benefits new players who're building up their technique, but also seasoned pros love the freedom of movement afforded by the design. The neck is fixed with recessed bolts and washers, enabling you to make alterations with ease.

A 24-fret rosewood fingerboard, giving an extensive two-octave playing area along a 34” scale length neck, tops the neck. The responsive character of the rosewood gives an articulate attack across each and every note.

Electronics & Hardware

Simple but classic, the Epiphone Toby Standard IV Bass features a pair of Tobias single-coils, with a TBR in the neck, and a TBT at the bridge. Carving your sound is easy thanks to the plethora of controls: master volume, pickup blend, neck EQ and bridge EQ.

The low-profile bridge ensures that the connection between strings and body is as secure as possible, aiding in the longevity of the sustains. The bridge is also fully adjustable, so you can readily raise or lower the action of the strings to suit your playing position. Deluxe die-cast machine heads with 14:1 gear ratio uphold tuning integrity with absolute precision, so you can rock out as much as you like. The body has been given a slick Alpine white finish, which is offset by the black headstock and hardware.

Whether you're just starting out on your musical journey, or have many miles under your fingers, the Epiphone Toby Standard IV bass guitar is a fantastic model that makes you want to keep on playing.
