The ESP E-II AP-5 body is built using white ash, a highly resonant tonewood that produces tones that are filled to the brim with warmth. The AP-5 feels nice and light, allowing you to be play for hours on end without you even noticing. The tobacco sunburst finish is truly sublime.
A bright and snappy-sounding maple neck carries out the task of offering the perfect counterpoint to the white ash to perfection. Married to the neck is a delightful rosewood fingerboard. The body/neck/fingerboard tonewood combination creates the perfect blend of soulful warmth with defined note articulation and clarity across the fingerboard. The neck responds excellently to any style - be it fingerpicked, played with a plectrum, slapped hard, tapped out, etc. The cutaway allows you to comfortably reach the upper frets with no problem at all for smooth runs all the way.
The AP-5 has been treated to compliment of two Seymour Duncan SMB-5D pickups in both the neck and bridge positions. These pickups run hot and are absolutely perfect for classic rock, heavy rock, funk, punk, R&B and even metal. As you can see they aren't one-trick ponies and they don't just clutch at styles, they own them. Thanks to their hum-cancelling design, the output from the SMB-5D's is nicely balanced, with richly articulated notes in the bottom, warm midrange and treble with plenty of bite. Favoured players of these pickups include David Bronze (bassist who has played with Eric Clapton, Ray Davies and Dr. Feelgood to name but a few), Marcelo Dias (former-Soulfly bassist) and Pete Chilton (Bane).
The built-in Seymour Duncan STC-3M4 EQ section pushes the boundaries of you sonic options even further. Defining the sound you want couldn't be easier - or more intricate - thanks to the additional control pots. Lows can be kept ultra-tight, mids made punchier and treble given even more teeth or softly rounded. It all comes down to have creative you want with the tools at your disposal.
The ever-faithful Gotoh string-thru bridge seamlessly merges the strings to the body for a reassuringly anchored feel. The Gotoh tuners ensure that once you tune up, it stays that way until you decide to change it. No matter what you throw at these strings, they always come back asking for more. Adjustments couldn't be easier, so whether you're on stage or in the studio, you can get on with doing what you do best.
The ESP E-II AP-5 is as close to perfection as you can get. It plays great and the extended range of this five-string beauty gives you more options tonally. the response from the strings encourages you to play without ever wanting to stop.
