Since its introduction in the 1950s, the Fender Standard Precision bass guitar has been the instrument of choice for both session players and touring musicians, thanks to its devastating sonic attack, highly versatile tonality, easy to control setup, and smooth playability.
For decades it has set the standard for others to follow, with many respected bassists having their very own signature P Bass models, including: Roger Waters, Steve Harris, Pino Palladino and Nate Mendel to name but a few. The current model combines the greatest features from classic models, alongside modern appointments, in order to create a rendition that is better than ever before.
The body has been crafted using alder, a lightweight and tonally balanced tonewood that is very generous with its low-end delivery, which is carried through with a forceful punch, but cuts through with enough high-end clarity to prevent any muddiness from creeping in and overwhelming the signal. The body has been finished in a cool black finish, which is protected by a slender layer of polyester.
The slender maple neck is shaped to the comfortable modern "C" profile. Married to the neck is a superb maple fingerboard, which is home to 20 medium-jumbo size frets that are spacious without feeling like too much of a stretch, The frets are decorated with black dot position inlays to aid in your navigation of the fingerboard. The maple/maple neck and fingerboard partnership guarantees that each and every note rings out with the utmost clarity through the power of the alder. The neck has been treated to a tinted satin urethane finish, preventing the build up of stickiness or tackiness, making it a dream to glide along. Thanks to the double-cutaway body profile, each and every fret is within easy reach.
For a bass that is renowned for its versatility, it's surprising that the electronics' setup consists of a standard split single-coil Precision Bass pickup, which is controlled by the Master Volume and Master Tone pots. Whether you're playing upbeat dance-inspired riffs, heavy rock, punk, or country - pretty much anything you can imagine -, the Precision Bass has you covered. Simply plug in, tweak the controls to suit, and play.
The body is equipped with a 4-saddle standard vintage-style bridge with single-groove saddles, creating a seamless connection between strings and body. Not only does this create the perfect foundation for optimising intonation and sustain, but ensures an anchored playing feel so you can rock out freely. The headstock bears the standard open-gear tuning machines, which work tirelessly to maintain tuning precisely.
Whether you're new to the instrument, or are a seasoned pro with years of experience behind you, the Fender Standard Precision bass guitar in black would make a fine recording/touring partner for any bassist.
