The Firebird has an incredibly iconic look, deriving its unique shape from 1950s car tailfins. The brains behind this design was a car maker named Ray Dietrich who worked alongside Ted McCarty in creating this guitar that was ahead of its time. The Firebird has been well-received over the years, and remains one of Gibson's most radical models.
One of the most remarkable features of the Firebird is its reverse-style body with a longer right horn. The body is constructed from mahogany, a time-tested and cherished tonewood often used in Gibson models due to its articulate, deep range of tones. The body feels lightweight and agile, reducing fatigue and enhancing the overall playing experience. By employing a fast-access heel there is greater access to the upper frets, vastly improving playability.
The advanced neck of the 2017 Firebird Studio HP has a fast and comfortable Slim Taper profile. The Soloist neck is a single-piece of mahogany which fits in the hand with ease. The neck is topped by a rosewood fingerboard which gives you 22 frets to explore. Plus, for better control over tone and much better sustain, Gibson have fitted an adjustable titanium zero-fret nut with a locking feature.
Gibson guitars are known for their blistering rock sound, and the 2017 Firebird Studio HP model maintains this thanks to a pair of humbuckers. A 496R pickup is fitted in the neck position while a 500T is in the bridge position. This duo is incredibly powerful, ensuring high performance sound quality and articulate tones.
Four control pots enable you to shape your sound to suit your playing needs by tweaking the rhythm and lead Volume and Tone knobs. Gibson have upgraded the wiring used in the controls so that switching is completely silent. A 3-way pickup toggle switch also features.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
More updates are included in the form of the G FORCE tuners fitted to the back of the headstock. This modern tuning system makes retuning the strings a quick and easy exercise, one that provides confidence that each string will stay in tune. Gibson have also worked relentlessly to ensure that the tuners do not give out any unwanted noise or interference.
The body is fitted with a modern chrome-plated aluminium Tune-o-Matic bridge with titanium saddles and an aluminium Stop Bar tailpiece with locking studs for quality sustain and resonance. The modern chrome hardware complements the body while also providing much better tone control overall.
The black pickguard protects the body against damage and scratches, while it also has the traditional gold Firebird logo stamped on it. The 2017 Firebird Studio HP comes with a Gibson gig bag, guitar strap and polishing cloth to enable the owner to keep the guitar in an excellent condition for many years to come.
