Details
The Gibson Firebird Electric Guitar in Tobacco Burst was originally released in 1963 as a way for Gibson to introduce a more futuristic model to their range. The reverse body and headstock design were revolutionary for the time, finding a place with legendary guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa and blues icon Johnny Winter.
Unique Reverse Body
It was Ted McCarty, then President of Gibson who asked the famous US car designer Ray Dietrich to design a guitar, resulting in the Firebird. With its 'reverse' body design, the Gibson Firebird combines good looks with incredible tone. A solid Mahogany body gives classic Gibson tonality, that mixture of warmth and bite that's become synonymous with the brand.
Neck Through Design
A 9-ply Mahogany/Walnut neck through design gives incredible sustain and helps keep the guitar in tune for longer. Having no neck joint means there is no heel for the neck to connect to the body so you get greater upper fret access, perfect for letting rip with some searing lead licks. As well as better access the neck through design provides excellent reaction to string tension and pressure, making them a lot sturdier than traditional bolt-on designed guitars. Coupled with a 22 fret bound Rosewood fretboard you get a smooth and satisfying playing surface.
Firebird Mini Humbuckers
The Firebird Mini Humbuckers give you a tone that retains the power of a humbucker whilst supplying you more of the spank and bite you'd traditionally find on a single coil. The trebly nature of these pickups makes them perfect for Texas blues licks and hard rock riffs and the tone of these pickups will stay defined, even when you crank the volume on your amplifier.
Hard-Wearing Hardware
The Aluminium Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge alongside the Aluminium Stopbar is another Gibson mainstay, ensuring the intonation of your guitar is pinpoint. Working in conjunction with the Grover Mini Rotomatics tuning machines you're ensured of complete tuning stability and reliability. The Chrome plating of the hardware alongside the Black Top Hat knobs with Silver Reflectors complement the finish to give you a guitar that's equally as good looking as it is dependable.
The Gibson Firebird Electric Guitar in Tobacco Burst is a classic design with a bright and tight voice and unique styling. With its reverse body, neck through design and particular pickups this guitar will turn both heads and ears, whether you're on stage or in the studio.
