First introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird Electro Acoustic Guitar in Heritage Cherry Sunburst, quickly became a classic, with everyone from Keith Richards to Gram Parsons picking up Gibson’s first square-shouldered dreadnought. The Hummingbird soared in popularity because of its versatility; proving it’s more than capable of handling folk, country, and rock with equal finesse. Since then, it has gone on to secure its place in rock history, featuring on the recordings of some of music history’s most beloved recordings.
The strong fundamentals that make up the Gibson Hummingbird Electro Acoustic Guitar are the reason for its continued success and production; giving today’s players the same rich, deep tones and playability that see it being just as adept for playing first position chords as it is at flat picking lead lines up the neck.
The powerful square-shoulder dreadnought body profile is constructed using a classic combination of tonewoods, with select Sitka spruce employed as the top, and mahogany completing the back and sides. The spruce has superb resonant properties, which allows it to vibrate with ease and deliver superb projection – to the perfect soundboard for this exquisite guitar. Spruce also has the added benefit of getting better with age, with each model developing its own unique character over time. with it the projection that has seen the Hummingbird become such a powerhouse of a guitar, but it’s also known for developing even more character as its played in. The mahogany helps to level out the tonal offering of the guitar by giving extra focus to the mid-range alongside the crisp clarity of the spruce.
Aside from the tonal offering of the guitar, it is also quite beautiful, with its Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish and tortoise pickguard, with the traditional Hummingbird motif.
Fitted to the body of the Gibson Hummingbird - via a compound dovetail joint and reinforced using premium Titebond adhesive -, is a mahogany neck, shaped to Gibson’s comfortable slimtaper profile. Topping this is a rosewood fingerboard outfitted with Mother-of-Pearl parallelogram inlays and a 1.725" Tusq nut. This is matched by a traditional Belly Up rosewood bridge, which has been fitted with a Tusq saddle. Another classic element of the Gibson Hummingbird Guitar is the 17-degree-angled, traditional CF-100 headstock. This features a Mother of Pearl Gibson logo and crown, and is equipped with a set of nickel Grover Rotomatics.
