PRS Guitars: A Brief History

From building a guitar as a challenge to his college music professor to becoming a leader in the global guitar building community with a company at the top of their game, it is fair to say Paul Reed Smith has done alright for himself. Starting from building and selling bespoke models to legends like Carlos Santana, Al Di Meola, and many others, PRS slowly but surely built the company from the ground up to what it is today. The key to his success is not just perseverance but the striving for excellence and dedication to his craft, which is something that touches upon every aspect of PRS Guitars.

PRS Guitars Ranges

There are PRS Guitars Core USA-Made flagship guitars, which include their legendary Custom 22 and 24 models, McCarty, Hollow body, Speciality, and Signature models. They represent the outstanding quality that endures, and their artist roster will attest to their faithful consistency. Their Student Edition (or SE as they’re more commonly known) models offers superb craftsmanship at a more affordable price, with renditions of their flagship models as well as unique takes on their artist signature collaborations with Mark Tremonti, Zach Myers, Mark Holcomb, and Santana to name but a few.

From pioneering fusion players to country rockers to hard rockers to djent maestros, there is not a genre that PRS Guitars do not cater to. Sitting in between the Core and SE ranges is the S2 range, which offers USA-Made craftsmanship and some designs not featured in their other ranges at a more affordable price.

However you look at it though, if it has the PRS logo on it, you can be sure that you are getting an instrument of enviably high quality. In recent years PRS Guitars added electro-acoustic models to their repertoire with the Angelus and Tonare Grande ranges. Boasting exquisite tonewoods and the superior build quality we’ve come to expect from PRS models, all PRS SE electro-acoustic models are equipped with Fishman GT1 pickups that translate the lush tonal palette of each one immaculately, as well as featuring a hard shell case to get you out and performing in style.
