With a history in metal that spans over thirty years – and showing no signs of stopping -, the RG series is Ibanez’s most recognisable line, with a design and feature set that sets it aside from the mainstream. The years have been more than kind to the line-up, sculpting the family into a set of high-performance guitars, set up for performing at incredible speeds, whilst returning an inner strength that guarantees longevity. The Ibanez RG8-BK Electric Guitar in Black is one such instrument. The power and intensity that can be produced by this model is matched exquisitely with enormous versatility and graceful playing feel.

The basswood body of the Ibanez RG8-BK is conforms to the instantly recognisable RG-shape, with its ‘dual-horn’ deep double-cutaways that enable ready access to the upper frets, and bevelled edges that ensure as comfortable a playing experience as possible. The body feels lightweight thanks to the basswood, and for an extended range model, the playability is superb. The body – and matching headstock – is finished in an understated black finish, which is matched by all-black hardware.

Joined to the Ibanez RG8-BK’s body is a five-piece maple/walnut Wizard II-8 neck that has been strengthened with KTS Titanium Reinforcement rods and carved to a fast, flat and slim profile. The guitar’s extra-long scale of 27” offers clear articulation and long sustain, while the factory-set down tuning of 1D#, 2A#, 3F#, 4C#, 5G#, 6D#, 7A#, 8F really opens up the tonal possibilities. The neck of the Ibanez RG8-BK is topped by a rosewood fingerboard with jumbo frets that are adorned with white dot position inlays. Again, Ibanez has gone to great lengths to ensure that this extended range model is incredibly comfortable to play, and whether you’re making the transition from a 6-string, or you’re completely new to the guitar, you can get to grips with the neck and fingerboard in no time at all.

Giving voice to the Ibanez RG8 BK Electric Guitar is a pair of IBZ-8 pickups, which provide deep tones that are infused with an inherent warmth. Whether you’re employing choppy, chugging riffs, performing intricate arpeggios or two-hand tapping techniques, or slamming open chords, the pickups respond with an enviable articulation and clarity across the entire frequency spectrum. Switching between each pickup couldn’t be easier thanks to the three-way pickup selector switch. These are controllable via a three-way selector switch and volume and tone control knobs.

As we’ve come to expect from the boundary-pushing geniuses at Ibanez, the RG8-BK Electric Guitar in Black is nothing short of awesome. Combing power, elegant design, and versatility to perfection, this 8-string guitar is the stuff that dreams are made off, opening up the world of extended range models to everyone.
