The Ibanez SR500 bass guitar is quite simply an incredible bass guitar that is part of the SR family, a line that has been rocking stages around the world for over 25 years.

For a company who has a wealth of experience in crafting beautiful instruments for some of the world’s finest musicians, they put just as much effort into signature models as they do their lower priced models. Before you even pick up and play an SR500 bass, you can clearly see how much care and attention to detail has been afforded to the crafting of an impeccable bass.

The SR500 has been built using rich mahogany, and the natural finish of the tonewood shines through in style. The clean curvature of the body profile gives it an unbelievably slick aesthetic, not to mention a heavenly playing feel. Ibanez have ensured that the body rests snugly against you during performances, to guarantee the most enjoyable playing experience achievable. The timbre of the mahogany is full of warmth and breathes life into every pick/pluck/slap.

Ibanez neck profiles are the stuff of dreams. The SR500 has been treated to 5-piece Jatoba/Bubinga neck, which is shaped to the ludicrously thin SR4 neck profile. The combination of Jatoba and Bubinga gives the neck a durability and strength that belies the slender profile, inspiring a great deal of confidence in the necks ability to handle anything and everything thrown at it. The extended neck joint - or neck tongue - not only adds to the unique look of the SR500 but also makes utilising the higher frets very easy.

Married to the neck is a gorgeous 24-fret rosewood fingerboard, adorned with Abalone oval position inlays. The neck and fingerboard tonal characteristics balance out the overall tone of the bass by giving the mid to treble range greater depth, as well as a fast attack when executing slap or picking techniques.

The SR500 is fitted with the powerful Bartolini MK-1 neck and bridge pickups. The MK-1 pickups are split-coil passive designs that provide a huge frequency range, with enhanced definition for maximum accuracy, so that each and every nuance in your playing style/technique is translated with the utmost transparency. The EQB-IIIS 3-band EQ with mid-frequency switch, enables you to craft and shape your output as you wish, giving you total control over your sound.

The rear of the body has an easy access panel for the 9V battery box that powers the active EQ circuitry, whilst the placement of the cable input has been designed to be as unobtrusive as possible.

Sealed die-cast closed-back Ibanez tuners ensure that once you set the tuning you desire, the strings will remain firmly in position throughout. The Accu-cast B300 bridge ensures a seamless connection between the strings and body, so that intonation is maintained accurately across the neck.

The Ibanez SR500 plays like an absolute dream. If you're looking for a robust, reliable, versatile, playable bass guitar, then this is the one for you. Whether you're a session player who needs a bass that can do it all, then the combination of pickups and tonewoods has you covered. If you're looking for a touring partner that will be with you for years to come, the SR500 will meet your demands dutifully night after night.

Posted on 20/02/2014 by I had a lower value Ibanez, but this is a dream, the sound, the feel, the look. I have just ordered the Roland XL 120 Amp, and I would bet this will sound even better. i would like the fretless version, but only when I am better, had more lessons etc. BUY THIS BASS you won't be disappointed people
