The legendary status of Randy Rhoads lives on, many years after his untimely passing. The Jackson Pro Series Rhoads RR3 Electric Guitar in Ivory With Black Pinstripes is an iconic tribute to his uncompromising style, and is an axe that is synonymous with fearless guitar playing. The Rhoads' model has endured the test of time, and will continue to find its way into the hands of many players for years to come, thanks to models like this beauty produced by Jackson.
Unique Rhoads' body shape
Randy Rhoads' unique style wasn't simply isolated to his playing. He sketched out the idea for what he named "The Concorde", and asked Grover Jackson to built it. Following several builds and refinements, the Randy Rhoads' model that we've all come to know and love was born. The Pro Series RR3 is cut to that same instantly recognisable body shape, which resembles a V with a less pronounced lower bout. Built using mahogany, the body provides a substantial feel in the hands whilst retaining comfortable and uncumbersome handling. With unfettered access to the upper frets, the neck is easily reachable in its entirety. The ivory finish with black pinstripe design is as visually striking as it is intricately completed, with a layer of gloss applied for preservation that enables it to age gracefully.
Reinforced yet elegant neck
The single-piece neck-through-body construction is designed to optimise intonation and sustain, giving the Pro Series Rhoads' model tones that ring out for days. Graphite reinforcement ensures that no matter what you throw at this beauty, the neck remains firm and unyielding. The sublime scarf joint encourages a snug feel against the body during performances. The classic Rhoads' neck shape has been applied to create the same feel that the man himself favoured. Single-ply binding traces along the neck to extend the ivory finish from the body through to the headstock.
Married to the neck is a heavenly ebony fingerboard, which is home to 22 jumbo frets that are adorned with pearloid sharkfin inlays to guide your way in style. The compound radius fingerboard lends itself well to smooth string bends, elegantly executed legato licks, and those all-important arpeggios to complete the fretboard gymnastics' routine. The oiled finish ensures that rapid transitions along the neck are carried out with effortless grace.
Powerful Seymour Duncan pickups
The Pro Series Rhoads RR3 is equipped with a pair of Seymour Duncan humbuckers, with a JB in the bridge and a '59 in the neck. A classic combination, this pairing offers the searing heavy tones of the JB, as well as the smooth clear tones from the '59, which equates to a well-rounded output that is perfect for everything from chunky blues to white-hot metal. Control over the pickups comes in the form of a master volume pot, a mater tone pot, and a three-way pickups selector switch to keep everything simple yet effective.
Randy Rhoads wanted this model to be built for taking out of tour, and Jackson have adhered to this spec by kitting out the Rhoads' RR3 with roadworthy hardware. The headstock is home to Jackson sealed die-cast tuning machines, which fix each string firmly before passing them via the Floyd Rose locking nut on their way to the Floyd Rose FRT-03000 double-locking tremolo bridge. No matter how much you dive or wail on this beauty, you can rest assured that your tuning will remain intact with intonation preserved.
From the headstock to the straplocks, everything has a feel of durability and quality, ensuring that the Jackson Pro Series Rhoads RR3 electric guitar in Ivory with Black Pinstripes does justice to the legendary guitarist and manufacturer's names.
