Giving you a heavy-hitting sound engine and advanced features that you would associate with a product that’s half as much again, the Korg Kross 61 Workstation Keyboard makes pro music creation more affordable than ever. With its onboard 16-track MIDI sequencer, audio recorder, mic input, and lightweight, battery-powered design (just 6 *AA batteries, or AC adapter) bringing your music with you is easy.

The KORG Kross 61 Workstation Keyboard sets you up with piano, electric piano, and drum sounds, all lifted from Korg’s professional, flagship instruments. The grand piano sound has been sampled to provide players with decay, three levels of velocity, and even the sound of the damper pedal being used; additionally the workstation also features an upright piano. The five electric piano sounds are equally expressive as their acoustic counterparts and include effect settings and a mass of performance-ready sounds, while the drum sound are realistic and fresh.

The portability of the Korg Kross 61 Workstation Keyboard has made it necessary to provide the instrument with new levels of versatility. With this in mind Korg have included twice (approx.) as much PCM data as previous models. Favorite sounds, such as rock/jazz organ, strings, brass, and synth have all been cleaned up, while others are just being introduced to this class of synth, including toy piano, accordion, combo organ, church organ, tape sampler, bell-type sounds and dance music sounds.

Sound Selection

So many musical possibilities are on offer with the Korg Kross Workstation Keyboard, so it may seem a little daunting. Korg have ensured finding the sound you want quickly, is simple, with the inclusion of two bespoke dials. One is used to select the category of sound, while the other is used to select the sound within that category.

Another feature that aids performance is the Favorites function. This gives you four banks of 16 buttons to save frequently used sounds or audio songs to, and recall at the press of a button.

EDS-i Sound Engine

Distilled from the sound engines of Korg’s top end instruments, the EDS-i sound engine used in the Korg Kross Keyboard enables the ability to use five insert effects and two master effects simultaneously. With 134 effects on offer, including staples such as reverb and delay, to amp models and even a robot vocoder, you’ll never be short of inspiration.

The musical possibilities continue throughout, with the Korg Kross’ MIC IN jack (1/4" phone jack) allowing you to hook up a microphone without the need for a separate mixer. A LINE IN jack (stereo 1/8" jack) is available to connect an audio player.

Quick Split

With dedicated buttons setting up a split across the keyboard is easy. Just select a programme and press Split. This will bring up a screen that prompts you to choose the sound for the other part of the keyboard and the split point. Write the settings and the Korg Kross will save it as a Combination.

Built-in Stereo Audio Recorder

The Korg Kross 61 Workstation’s built-in stereo recorder encompasses all the sound you use in your performance, so rather than just recording the parts provided by the keyboard, it will also record the sound from a connected mic or external audio source. This makes it easy to play along to backing tracks you have recorded, without going near a computer, or overdubbing to create complete songs. With the ability to import and export WAV files and connectivity for an SD card (sold separately), bringing your work to a computer is easy.

Step Sequencer, 16-track MIDI Sequencer, Drum Track, and an Arpeggiator

Lifted from the Electribe series, the step sequencer included on the Korg Kross 61 Workstation Keyboard is remarkably easy to use. 16 buttons are used to turn on/off individual notes, to create rhythm patterns of up to 64 steps.

Although lightweight, the Korg Kross includes everything you could want from a workstation (and a fair bit more) including a 16-track MIDI sequencer with quantization, copy and paste, and individual note event editing. Adding rhythm is simple with the Drum Track function’s dedicated button and arpeggiator that generates synth sounds, and guitar and bass riffs.

USB Connectivity

Transferring MIDI data is simple with the Korg Kross Workstation’s USB connectivity. KROSS Editor and Plug-In Editor also allow you to view and edit parameters and use Kross within your DAW.
