The Marshall 2061X Re-Issue Handwired 20 Watt Guitar Amplifier Head is part of the new series of vintage reissues that adhere as closely to the original models as possible. Today's guitarists can now get their hands on the models that have been coveted by many for decades. The 2016X delivers the sumptuous tones of the 2061 - originally produced from 1967 to 1973 - in this all-valve 20-watt 'Lead and Bass' Head. Valve models love to be played at their peak, running hot to create that sweet sound. As the 2061X runs hot at 20-watts, an ear-friendly level, this makes it the perfect amp for recording with.
Within the 2061X lies a valve arrangement that consists of a single ECC83 preamp valve, enabling the signal to be pushed to produce warm overdrive. In the power amp stage there is a single ECC83 valve, and a pair of EL84 valves, an set-up that guarantees faithful tonal reproduction. Whether you're playing clean licks, or looking to execute some fat, enveloping leads, then the 2061X is the perfect partner to get that lush vintage vibe. Thanks to a solid-state, silicon diode rectifying, this amp is able to offer an aggressive modern edge, giving you the best of both worlds.
Total Amp Control
The 2061X is equipped with two channels - Lead and Bass -, which each has two inputs for high and low sensitivity inputs. Total creative control over the amp’s tone is ensured via the easy to read layout across the front panel: Power; Lead Channel - Tone, Volume; Bass Channel - Tone, Volume.
As each channel has individual inputs, it is possible to link channels to take advantage of the tonal potential of both channels at the same time. The most common way of doing this is to plug your guitar into the top (high sensitivity) input of one of the two channels and then run a short ‘jumper’ guitar cable (i.e. a screened cable) from that channel’s bottom (low sensitivity) input to one of the other channel’s two inputs. It is also possible to plug your guitar into the low sensitivity input, and then run a jumper cable into the one of the other channel's two inputs.
The tone circuit in the Lead channel emphasises high frequencies with a passive high frequency cut, with the mix controlled using the Tone control. The Bass channel is voiced to produce a tighter low-end, with greater emphasis on mid to low-end tones.
The cabinet has been constructed using high-grade, knot-free Baltic birch ply with finger-locked joints to guarantee maximum strength. The main cabinet frame, including both sides, the top, and bottom, and the front are constructed from 12mm ply while the back of the cabinet is 9mm ply.
With regard to cosmetics, the Marshall 2061X Re-Issue Handwired 20 Watt Guitar Amplifier Head features black Levant, beading, piping and small 6" gold logo, which are exactly the same as the original.
