Fans of Marshall - and heavy music in general - will need no introduction with regard to the legendary JCM800 100-watt amplifier head. For those who're unfamiliar with this beast, the Marshall JCM800 2203 Limited Edition Silver Jubilee amp head is a reissue model that is based on the classic 1981 -'84 JCM800 head, which itself evolved from Marshall's earlier 'Plexi' head. Many heavy metal bands in the '80s were quick to adopt the JCM800 due to its impressively crushing tones. Thanks to a scoopable EQ section and increased gain control range, many guitarists fell in love with the JCM800 due to the ease with which they could pull searing tones from the amp.
Inside this JCM800 reissue head is a valve compliment that dreams are made of. In the pre amp section are three ECC83 tubes, which enjoy being push to their limits and respond by injecting plenty of bite into your signal. The power amp section features four EL34 tubes that produce the quintessential aggressive "British Tone" that Marshall's are renowned for producing. Once you plug into one of these beauties it is easy to see why they set the standard for all hard rock amps that came after.
Along the beautiful crafted front panel is the very simple - but ever so powerful - control pot layout. At your fingertips you have access to a pre amp volume control to ramp up the gain and a master volume control to sound out a thundering output signal. The presence control allows you to create a lift in smaller playing venues, whilst the three-band EQ (Bass, Middle and Treble) allows you to scoop and shape the signal as you wish. Whether you're looking for fat, saturated Blues' tones or want to scoop-out the Mids for a crisp Thrash-inspired vibe - and everything in between -, anything you desire is but a subtle adjustment away.
Built into the amp is a Series Effects Loop with true bypass, allowing you to feed your effects pedals into the signal path after the pre amp stage, and when not in use you don’t have to worry with regard to signal colouration.
The Limited Edition Silver finish puts a striking twist on the classic design, with silver replacing the customary black and gold finish. The recognisable Marshall logo proudly sits on the front grille cloth, just as we’ve all come to expect. If you’re looking for that distinctive JCM800 tone then this amp is perfect. You’ll have to act quickly though, as once this amp is gone, it’s gone.
