For over 175 years, Martin has built a reputation for building some of the finest instruments in the world, used by top artists and highly sought after by avid players. The Martin LX1E "Little Martin" electro-acoustic guitar is a beautifully designed travel-sized guitar that packs tonnes of power into a compact, perfectly-formed instrument.

Elegant body profile

The top is built from solid Sitka spruce, a North American tonewood that is a popular choice in the construction of high-end acoustic guitars. Sitka spruce has the enviable combination of resilience, strength and elasticity, which gives the guitar a range of diverse tonal qualities from deep lows, through warm mids to crisp highs. The top is reinforced using Martin’s modified X series "X" bracing technique, giving further strength to prevent any chance of buckling over time, as well as giving a very secure feel to the body.

The back and sides of the guitar are built from mahogany high-pressure laminate, which offers up all the wonderfully resonant tones you'd expect from such a dense tonewood. Thanks to the laminate it can withstand temperature and humidity differences much more capably than a non-laminate, making it ideal for those who want a guitar that travels well.

Durable neck

The neck is cut to the very comfortable-to-play modified low oval profile. It is made from rust stratabond, a dye impregnated wood veneer that has now been utilised by Martin for their guitar necks due to its excellent durability and strength. As an alternative to traditional rosewood or ebony, the fingerboard is made from richlite. This is a lightweight composite material that is held in high regard due to its incredible strength, which adds to the integrity of the neck.

The neck has a generous 23” scale length, which is home to 20 very playable frets. The fingerboard width at the nut is 1-11/16” extending to 2-1/6” at the 12th fret, giving a very comfortable playing surface.

The Martin LX1E is fitted with the Fishman Sonitone electronics system, which houses easy volume and tone shaping controls.

The Tone control can be attenuated to help deliver a thicker or punchier sound. You can also drop out the midrange when finger-picking and add more depth for times when you want to strum hard. The phase control can be used to improve bass response at low volume and suppress feedback at high volume.

The guitar is finished to Martin’s high standards with a white Corian nut, a black richlite bridge and a white tusq compensated saddle.

Posted on 21/09/2018 by What a great sounding guitar! The tuner and amplified feature make this one show worthy in small venues. Great gig bag - reviews say it all. Do these lil' Martins need humidifiers in the sound hole? Seems likely but does the gig bag allow moisture to evaporate faster? One inch 11/16's at the nut - great for smaller hands!
Posted on 25/01/2015 by I bought this as an easy alternative to my full size acoustic guitar which is a bit of a nomad in my house (the Missus says it gets in the way). The LX1E is great! The smaller size means that I can keep it around the house and therefore am playing a lot more. The build quality is great and the sound excellent considering the reduction in size compared to my 1/1 guitar. I've had it plugged in which provides the fuller sound quality but I don't feel short changed without the amp.

The balance takes a little getting used to, as you would expect, but I'm really happy now as I'm playing so much more. The size is significantly smaller than full size models but I am not a big chap (5'9") and I don't feel odd playing it (especially as the sound is great). What's more - my 9 year old daughter loves it too. She's using it for her lessons and is really enjoying learning on a better quality instrument.

Can't wait for our Summer camping trips - this is def coming with us. I'd give the LX1E 6 stars if I could.
Posted on 08/08/2014 by I am so stoked with this guitar! Only had it for a few hours and it is amazing!

The build quality is amazing and the sound is crisp and gives a huge variety of highs and lows!

Love it, cant see myself needing a new guitar for a very long time, maybe the price seemed a bit steep before, but comparing it to my £200 lindo electro-acoustic I am so happy!

The guitar may be a bit small for people that are like 6' or so but I am not exactly the shortest person and it is a comfortable size!

For the size of the guitar i am so pleased that it delivers the sound it does and the quality!
