Details

Roland is not just another company, Roland set the standard with which other companies follow. Electronic music has been almost single-handedly shaped by Roland innovative electronic design. Roland developed the TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines, the TB-303 bass synthesiser and the JUNO-106 and Juno 60 Synthesiser. If we look at the music these electronic instruments have been part of from 80's house music, pop music and progressive rock it's easy to see how Roland are not merely another music company. Leaders in a busy and saturated field they consistently find the future sound with the most intuitive workflows.

FANTOM of all Operas

If you are a professional producer or an advanced hobbyist look no further, try no other! FANTOM is the New Normal! Combining all the elements necessary to succeed, more options than the mind can cope with, oscillators, LFOs, strike pads, full colour LED screen, extreme connectivity, MIDI-assignable dials and sliders, pre-set digital instruments, samples, drum patterns, modulation and professional construction and housing. FANTOM is jam-packed with features and options.

Less Work and More Flow

Having an almost unlimited supply of sounds, effects, pre-sets and loops is tremendous but being able to intuitively access, incorporate and record these in a seamless almost natural way is at the forefront of FANTOMs mysterious power. With custom creative spaces called scenes, FANTOM lets you build songs, patterns and sound structures effortlessly and record them for further use or to work with other instruments and within a DAW (Digital Workstation). You can chain Scenes together and scenes can be changed instantly with no gaps or glitches.

Mount Fuji of Engines

In order to carry all these features and implement them seamlessly, FANTOM uses its Custom Behaviour Modelling Chips. This level of power lets you use all the pre-set instruments simultaneously with all available effects. This is a level of freedom unheard of and means no longer worrying about overloading or lagging your system. Be free to create the soundscapes you desire.

Step, Clip and Trap

Modern production requires that automation and freehand need to work seamlessly. The modern producer needs top feel at home producing a wide variety of musical genres and at the fastest speed yet highest quality possible. FANTOM has a fully formed step sequencer capable of sub-steps for ratcheting, motion control for per-step automation and support for chords. You can record full sequences and then trigger these sequences live. As well as step time sequencing there is real-time polyphonic sequencing. The foundation of dance music is the step-sequencer, specifically the 16-step TR-REC variety found on our drum machines like the TR-808, TR-909 and modern TR-8S. FANTOM’s onboard TR-REC sequencer is fully modernized with sub-steps for ratcheted parts, motion control for per-step automation, and support for chords.

Authentic Sound Synthesis

One of Rolands primary features is the high level of authenticity in sound reproduction. The FANTOM also has the ability to sample user sounds and can trigger up to 2gb of loops form the 16 pads. FANTOM has two LFOs per partial, four partials per tone—and since you can stack 16 tones, that’s a staggering 128 LFOs per voice, and FANTOM’s Step-LFOs have 16 steps of beat-synced automation with 35 curve choices per step. This creates long evolving passages, modular-style animated textures, and sounds with deeply intricate movement.

The Players Piano

The FANTOM 8 has a 88 key PHA-50 fully weighted , hammer action keyboard. The PHA-50 is Roland's top of the line digital keyboard and is featured in their standalone digital pianos. The FANTOM 8 has dedicated aftertouch. Roland ensure that with each iteration of their keybeds they look to improve at each step. The player should feel like they are playing a piano be free to craft the sounds they desire. The FANTOM allows the user to do just that and more.

Make a Connection

FANTOM has all the usual suspects from balanced outputs and inputs including XLR inputs,1/4 inch inputs, inputs for pedal controls, MIDI IN and OUT to control or trigger external machines, USB connectivity, firewire connectivity, CV/Gate connections for further analogue control of external devices, extra XLR/1/4 inch jack outputs and 4 1/4 inch sub outs. You can control DAWs as the FANTOM fully integrates with digital audio workstations.

The FANTOM 8 sets the standard for professional-level controllers/keyboards. The FANTOM is the new normal and will allow professionals or advanced home producers to create more effortlessly at a higher level of sound quality than ever before.
