The Roland JP-80 is one of the most eagerly anticipated Roland synths to be released in a long time. The original JUPITER-8 Synthesizer was released in 1981 to critical acclaim, being such an expressive platform for music creation and live performance. Now comes the JUPITER-80 which, while paying homage to the old model, increases on the features and specifications to bring it into the 21st century, making full use of the Roland's latest synth technology.
Roland SuperNATURAL technology is at the sonic core of the Jupiter 80, creating a vast variety of sounds from vintage synth to natural sounding acoustic tones. These sounds are created to be expressive and Roland have taken a lot of care in producing the most authentic sounding performance possible. A complete collection of SuperNATURAL sounds is featured on the JP-80 from pianos to guitars and brass to strings; all of the must-have authentic sounds have been packed into this workstation and loads more for creating more unusual textures and layers. There is no need to alter your playing technique, the system automatically analyses what is being played and creates the most authentic sounds by adapting to your performance, which is perfect for both recording and live situations.
Full colour touch screen
The user interface is based around the full colour touch screen in the centre of the unit along with other live controls positioned in suitable and natural positions which allow simple hands on control. The interface is designed to be especially fast and simple as it is made primarily for live performance. 76 semi-weighted keys are included on the JP-80, which is capable of producing up to 256-note polyphony.
Connectivity with technology on the JP-80 is simple - USB flash memory drives can be plugged in for song playback or recording, ideal for quickly noting down ideas. Furthermore, the USB port can also be used for connecting the system to a computer, taking advantage of the built in USB-MIDI and audio interface.
Version 2 software now available
The version 2 software, available as a free download, offers support for the Roland WNA wireless adaptor, allowing for easy connection to an iPAd for use with partner apps including a synth tone editor. Also added are three new types of low pass filter, giving the synth a total of four types; new MFX structures, making for five now available; and a new Registration Play screen making live performance even easier.
