The Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster electric guitar in sonic blue will delight those who've always wanted their own incredible Jazzmaster at a fraction of the cost. Combining the classic features that made the Jazzmaster a favourite of many enigmatic musicians across the decades, with modern appointments and build quality, the VM Jazzmaster takes power, versatility, and playability to another level.
The Jazzmaster was introduced as a high-end successor to the Strat, in order to cater to the playing needs of jazz and blues guitarists, with the offset-waist body profile accommodating the seated playing position they adopted. However, in recent years the Jazzmaster is noted for its association with musical luminaries such as: Elvis Costello, Robert Smith, Thurston Moore, Stephen Malkmus, J Mascis, and Kevin Shields - to name but a select few of a huge list! The Jazzmaster's incredible sustain, tonal versatility, raw power, comfortable playability, and unique design continues to make it a go to model for players across many musical genres.
Body
The Vintage Modified Jazzmaster body has been crafted using basswood, a tonewood that is light in weight, but also packs an incredible punch. Thanks to its exquisite handling of lows, mids and highs, basswood is the perfect choice. The body has been given a cool sonic blue finish, which is complemented beautifully by the 3-ply white pickguard, and protected by a slender layer of gloss polyurethane.
Fitted to the body is the 6-saddle vintage-style with non-locking floating vibrato, hailed for its ability to ensure optimum intonation and sustain. The tremolo responds beautifully, allowing you to infuse you tone with subtle tremolo/vibrato, and return to start-position efficiently every time.
Neck
Fitted to the body is a sublime maple neck, which has been shaped to the "C" shape profile that gives it a substantial feel in the hand that yields a fast-playing feel. The gloss polyurethane finish along the back of the neck prevents unwanted stickiness or tackiness from affecting manoeuvrability or playability, so that you may glide up and down the neck effortlessly. Married to the neck is a stunning rosewood fingerboard, home to 21 medium-jumbo frets that are adorned with dot position inlays.
Electronics
The Vintage Modified Jazzmaster comes fitted with a pair of Duncan Designed JM-101 single-coil Jazzmaster pickups in the neck and bridge positions. Powered by Alnico 5 magnets, the pickups work with the intricate circuitry to deliver warm, smooth tones every time. One of the Jazzmaster's notable features is the pickup circuitry, which features a "roller" thumbwheel and slide switch. The slide switch selects between two different pickup circuit options: "lead" and "rhythm". In the lead position, the tone and volume knobs, and the 3-position pickup selector switch control the guitar’s tone. In the rhythm position, only the neck pickup is active, and the volume and tone are controlled by the two thumbwheels. Therefore, you can effectively set up two different settings within the guitar itself, to quickly switch between rhythm and lead tones. To say this arrangement is versatile would be an massive understatement.
The Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster electric guitar in sonic blue should be on every guitarist's wish list. With a heady combination of raw power, exceptionally versatility, beautiful playability, gorgeous finish, and ludicrously affordable price tag, the VM Jazzmaster deserves to be cherished and played with love.
