The great feel, sound, and playability of the more expensive Music Man guitars, offered to those with more reasonable budgets, the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 is a great-looking, great-playing workhorse of an electric guitar.
The mission statement of an HSS electric is to cram multiple personalities into one guitar and the Silo3 does this ably.- Henry Yates (musicradar.com)
Classically Contoured Jabon Body
Beautifully contoured, the body of the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar provides comfort and control in a classic design. All edges have been smoothed out and the double cutaway offers an appealing design and easy access to the upper frets.
The body is constructed from hardwood, though more specifically, it is jabon, as opposed to the usual basswood seen elsewhere. The difference with jabon is that is slightly heavier, giving you a more solid feel, and it resonates better, providing an improved tone. Here the body has been finished in black and is joined by a black pickguard.
Crafted from solid maple, the neck of the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 is joined to the body via a 5-bolt neck joint, for incredible neck-to-body contact that ensures nothing is lost between the two.
The neck has been finished in satin, for a smooth, tactile feel that makes it a joy to play. It has also been designed to provide comfort, no matter what style of play you put to it, with an asymmetrical profile shape. This shape is thicker and rounded on the bass side and slimmer on the treble side. If you do a lot of playing in the upper register you’ll be particularly attracted to this guitar as, along with the double cutaway making life a lot easier, the neck heel has also been contoured and rounded to make playing even more comfortable.
An easy-access truss rod adjuster, found at the base of the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3’s fingerboard makes adjusting the action simple, while a vintage-style tremolo, with easy-to-adjust saddles, gives you dive-bombing options.
Providing a comfortable playing surface to equal that of the neck, is the instrument’s rosewood fingerboard. This measures 12-inches in radius and is fitted with 22 medium sized frets and dot position inlays.
With 2 high output single coil pickups and 1 overwound humbucker, along with a 5-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Master Tone controls at your disposal, the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar is incredibly versatile.
The single tones offer clearer, tighter tones, perfect for adding a little jangle or blues tones to your sound, though you can throw some gain at them to make them punchier. Switch to the humbucker for a warmer, louder sound.
