Bringing Music Man feel, sound, and playability to those on more sensible budgets, Sterling by Music Man presents the incredible SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar.
The mission statement of an HSS electric is to cram multiple personalities into one guitar and the Silo3 does this ably.- Henry Yates (musicradar.com)
To Have and to Hold
The body of the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar is constructed from jabon. Not the most common of hardwoods, jabon is a little heavier than basswood (which most people are more used to), providing a studier feel to your playing, along with extra resonance to the instrument, which translates into a better tone.
This wood has been shaped with swooping contours, to give the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar a supremely comfortable and classic-looking body. Everything is smoothed out for a delectable design, which incorporates a double cutaway, for unrestricted access to the upper frets. The body here has been covered with a Metallic Red finish that gives it the aesthetic of a Hot Rod, and it is finished off nicely with a black pickguard.
As Smooth as Satin
Loss of sustain between neck and body is of no concern here, as a 5-bolt neck joint connects the two. The solid maple neck here is satin-finished for the material’s smooth and pleasing feel underhand, also adding to the immense playability of the neck is its asymmetrical shaping. This neck design gives a rounder, thicker shape at the bass end of the neck, while the treble side is thinner, giving your hand natural positioning, whatever style of playing you’re employing.
On the flipside of the neck, a 12-inch radius, rosewood fingerboard gives an easy-to-navigate playing surface, with 22-medium frets and dot inlays guiding the way.
Along with the double cutaway giving unrestrictive access, players who favour the upper register will be particularly happy with the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar, as the neck heel has been given rounded contouring, to assist further with the comfortable playability of the instrument.
Fans of dive-bombing are catered for here with the instrument’s vintage-style tremolo, with easy-to-adjust saddles. Along with the saddles being simple to adjust, an easy-access truss rod adjuster also makes light work of altering the action.
Making up the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar’s electronics are 2 high output single coil pickups and 1 overwound humbucker, controllable via a 5-way pickup selector switch, and Master Volume and Master Tone knobs.
This gives an incredibly varied and versatile tonal palette, with single coils tones providing clear, bright tones, while you can switch to the humbucker for warm, growling sounds.
