Making the sound, feel, and playability of Music Man guitars more attainable, the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 offers an incredible workhorse of a guitar at a price that’s sure to please.
The mission statement of an HSS electric is to cram multiple personalities into one guitar and the Silo3 does this ably.- Henry Yates (musicradar.com)
When it comes to types of hardwood used for guitar bodies, basswood is the usual go-to material of choice. The Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar moves away from this, choosing jabon to take its place. A purposeful decision, this wood provides a little more weight, for a sturdier feel, and resonates better than basswood, for an improved tone.
Creating a comfortable and classic body style, the jabon has been carved with dramatic swoops and contours, with all the edges smoothed out. The double cutaway is not there solely for aesthetic reasons (though it does help) but to give players unrestrictive access to the upper frets. Another classic element to the design is the Tobacco Sunburst finish, which is joined by a white pickguard.
Playability and Easy Adjustability
Joined to the body of the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar via a 5-bolt neck joint, is a solid maple neck. This has been satin-finished, for a smooth feeling under the hand and real control over fretting, the neck has also been carved to an asymmetrical profile. This design offers a rounder, thicker shape at the bass end, which gets thinner and flatter towards the treble end, giving a more natural feeling to your playing. Atop the neck is a rosewood fingerboard, with a measurement of 12-inches in radius, 22-medium frets and dot inlays.
Further comfort is provided to those who play a lot in the upper register, as, along with the double cutaway opening up access, the neck heel of the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 has been carved with a rounded contouring.
Also at this end of the neck you’ll find the guitar’s vintage-style tremolo with easy-to-adjust saddles, for diving bombing and easy adjustments. To make altering the action easier, at the end of the fingerboard there is an easy-access truss rod adjuster.
The electronics fitted into the Sterling by Music Man SUB SILO3 Electric Guitar offer a varied tonal palette and versatility of sounds. It is outfitted with 2 high output single coil pickups and 1 overwound humbucker, which are controlled simply with a 5-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Master Tone knobs.
This setup gives you access to clear and bright tones from the single coils, and warm, growling tones when you engage the humbuckers.
