Leeds Music Shop
One of the youngest stores in the Dawsons family and new to Leeds city centre, our store on Vicar Lane is just a few seconds walk from the Headrow and Victoria Quarter shopping centre. Opened in February 2011, Dawsons Leeds has enjoyed becoming a big part of the already vibrant musical community in Leeds city centre and the wider West Yorkshire area.
Guitar Shop Leeds
The Leeds Guitar Shop is simply the guitar store to visit in Leeds. Passionate about guitars, the store is packed to the rafters with a huge selection, for the beginner to the professional. The staggering selection of electric guitars, housed in the rear of the shop, is so impressive that it has attracted superstars such as Robert Plant, Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Kaiser Chiefs, Feeder and Finch.
At the Dawsons Leeds Guitar Shop, you will find a vast range of guitars from World-class brands such as Gibson, Fender, Taylor, Martin, Gretsch, Ibanez, Epiphone, Takamine and Tanglewood. In addition, an enormous range of great effects pedals is available, campaigning for a spot on your pedal-board.
Drums & Pianos
The Leeds store always has the incredible Roland V-Drum digital kits on display, and ready to try. If keyboards and pianos are your first love however, a large selection of superb digital pianos from the ever-popular Roland, Yamaha and Kawai ranges should keep you very happy indeed.
Recording & DJ Equipment
Home recording is often the ‘next step’ to having your music heard in the wider world. At Dawsons Leeds, you’ll find an excellent range of interfaces, monitor speakers and microphones with knowledgeable staff who are on-hand hand to advise.
Car Parking in Leeds
If you are travelling from outside of the city centre, ample car parking is available at the Leeds NCP car park opposite the store, and staff members are always happy to help to transport any heavier purchases to your car. In the short time that Dawsons Leeds has been open, it has established itself as a fun and friendly place to be for all musicians.
Being a Musician in Leeds
The City of Leeds has plenty on offer to keep musicians busy. Large venues, which attract the biggest names on the touring circuit, and smaller, more culturally explosive venues combine to make Leeds one of the most exciting musical hotspots in the UK.
As a city known for being so welcoming to students, there is no shortage of places to play and watch live music. Leeds city centre is peppered with venues hosting all kinds of musical genres. From the blues, funk and jazz which are stock in trade at Smokestack (Lower Briggate) to the mellow vibes at Oporto on Call Lane, there's music on offer to suit any taste.
Belgrave Music Hall, in the city's Northern Quarter, is a favourite of up and coming bands, while The Library, situated in the buzzing student area, hosts regular live music nights as part of its long-running 360 Club.
The Cockpit, situated underneath an imposing railway bridge, is a favourite on the touring schedule of many small to medium sized bands. It offers a great chance to see acts “before they were big”.
Leeds' own O2 Academy, on Cookridge Street, is a unique 2,000+ capacity venue which hosts a variety of events, including live music and club nights.
The 13,000 capacity First Direct Arena, which opened in 2013, put the city's name on the global musical map and enhanced its credentials to welcome some of the biggest names around. Already, since it opened, it has welcomed Bruce Springsteen, Depeche Mode and local sons Kaiser Chiefs.
And, of course, we couldn't end without mentioning the world famous Leeds Festival. This annual bash is the highlight of many music fan's calendar, with around 80,000 people descending on Bramham Park for a weekend of the hottest rock, metal, grime and EDM.
With everything that's on offer, you can see why Leeds is a popular choice for musicians.
