Reading Music Shop
Reading is a place with strong ties to the world of music, despite its modest size. The town has been host to the huge Reading music festival for decades, and until recently, the WOMAD festival. As a result of these long-standing, major musical events, music is ‘in the blood’ of the people of Reading, and the very healthy local music scene is a testament to that. As befits the host to one of the UK’s biggest music festivals, our Reading store is the biggest store Dawsons currently has, in fact, it's also one of the UK's largest music stores. The aircraft-hanger sized space is home to just about everything a musician may need, conveniently with ample free parking available at the rear.
Guitar Shop Reading
The Reading Guitar Shop is simply the guitar store to visit in Reading. The massive guitar wall to the right of the store entrance has been known to make mouths fall open. This impressive, treasure trove of guitars is furnished with a huge selection of electric guitars and bass guitars from Gibson and Epiphone, with everything from beginners’ guitars through to Custom Shop collectors’ models. These share the space with an equally impressive range from Fender, Ibanez, Gretsch, ESP, PRS and many more. Acoustic guitars are also well represented, with a wide selection of guitars from Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Takamine, Yamaha, Farida, Fender, Epiphone and more. The store features two state-of-the-art air conditioned demo rooms.
Recording & DJ Equipment
For those whose approach to music is a bit more electronic, or for those looking to record their own music, a healthy selection of hi-tech and recording equipment is available in our Reading store. DJ equipment is available from key brands such as Pioneer, Numark and Native Instruments in this impressive section. A wide range of audio interfaces from Focusrite, Roland, Alesis, Apogee and more are stocked along with controller keyboards from Novation, Alesis, Roland and many more besides. These share the space with a range of microphones from SE, Rode, Shure and Samson, with studio monitors by brands such as KRK and Yamaha, plus just about anything else you may need to record.
The Best Piano Showroom
For keyboard and piano players, we probably have the best piano showroom in the UK. Our acoustic piano department features some beautiful Yamaha upright and grand pianos. For digital pianos, we are the only stockist in the UK to offer the full range of Roland digital pianos, along with a wide selection from Yamaha (including the full Arius and Clavinova range) and Kawai. To cater for those who like to programme and tweak their own sounds, Dawsons Reading has a wide selection of Synthesisers from brands such as Roland, Korg, Nord and more. Quite simply, this is a piano showroom that others' can only dream of emulating.
At the centre of the store is a huge Roland Planet. This is home to every Roland musical product currently available, on display and available to demo. In addition, a fully trained member of Roland staff is on hand to answer any questions relating to these products.
Dawsons Reading also stocks a selection of PA products, along with orchestral instruments and a huge selection of accessories. The Reading store is home to one of our music schools. Here, students can take lessons to learn how to play the guitar, piano or drums.
Free Car Park at the Rear of the Store
The store is a short walk from Reading train station and Reading town centre but for those driving to the store, we have a large, Free Car Park located at the rear of the store which can accommodate up to 80 cars.

Being a Musician in Reading
It's relatively close proximity to London means Reading misses out on some of the bigger names in music performing there. But what it lacks in large venues, it more than makes up for with its thriving local scene. There are plenty of venues for unsigned and up and coming acts to make their mark in the town.
The famous Purple Turtle on Gun Street, is a mecca for bands and artists. This 250-capacity venue is entirely geared up for performance, with a well-stocked backline ready to host whatever comes its way. It's also home to the weekly BBC Introducing event, giving gig-goers in Reading the chance to witness performances from some of music's hottest new names before they blow up.
Elsewhere, the Oakford Social Club on Blagrave St, regularly hosts live music nights, as does the Fox and Hounds pub in Caversham. Musicians looking for a culturally varied experience will want to seek out the Rising Sun Arts Centre on Silver Street. This small, independent arts centre hosts musical events from just about any genre you can think of, as well as giving artists opportunities to perform thanks to its regular club nights.
There's plenty of facilities for bands and artists to rehearse and record too. Reading is home to a number of well-specced recording studios, including White House Studios and Silver Street Studios. Both are welcoming to artists and offer creative space in which you can add some professional sheen to your recordings.
And it would be remiss not to highlight that there is one major musical event on the calendar here. You may have heard of it. The famous Reading Festival is held each year, attracting thousands of revellers to soak up the atmosphere at one of the UK's biggest outdoor music events. Each year the biggest names in music rock up to give music fans here an experience they'll never forget.
