The Tanglewood Crossroads TWCRCP Acoustic Guitar in Whiskey Barrel Burst finish offers a diminuitive model as part of their outstanding Crossroads series of models. Tanglewood took inspiration from the heritage models of the 1930s, which early blues, roots, and folk players adopted as their instrument of choice due to their affordability and durability. The same applies to the Crossroads parlour model, which is an outstanding instrument at an affordable price.
As with their Masterdesign series, Tanglewood tasked fastidious Scandinavian Luthier Michael Sanden with the job of designing the Crossroads' series of models. With an affinity for working with wood, a considered approach to guitar design, and the no-expense-spared attitude down to the slightest of appointments, Sanden has secured the Crossroads' legacy for years to come.
Parlour body shape
The TWCRCP is built to the Parlour body shape, which makes it significantly smaller than that of the more common dreadnought. For those players with a smaller reach, younger players, and those seeking a guitar that is perfect for folk or bluegrass, then the parlour is the ideal choice. The comfort factor with regard to this guitar is superior due to it being less physically demanding, so it is great for those who want a model they can while away the hours on. Although there is a travel model in the Crossroads' arsenal, the parlour is also a portable little beauty. Whether you're a fingerstyle player or a flat picker, you'll love the ease with which your hands can move around this guitar. However, ensemble players will also find that it is more than capable of accompanying and complementing other instruments just as beautifully.
The top is crafted using hand-selected genuine mahogany, which is paired with mahogany back and sides, resulting in a rich timbre that is infused with a warm character. As noted above, Sanden's unique bracing pattern allows the soundboard to resonate freely, whilst preventing unwanted buckling or warping over time.
Neck and fingerboard
Fitted to the body is a solid and durable mahogany neck, which is shaped to a unique profile to facilitate comfort alongside stability. Married to the neck is a rosewood fingerboard, which is home 20-frets that are adorned with dot position inlays. The fingerboard ensures smooth transitions between frets, making it delightfully comfortable to perform on, as well as adding to the stunning overall finish.
Hardware and Finish
The body is home to a rosewood bridge, which matches elegance with stability to ensure a solid anchor point for the strings. Thanks to the superb partnership of hardware and construction across the guitar, intonation and sustain is optimised for peerless performance at this price range. Chrome die-cast tuning machines uphold tuning integrity dutifully throughout the most enthusiastic of performances. Another unique touch is the Whiskey Barrel Burst Satin finish, created exclusively for the Crossroads series of models.
