Similar to a travel-sized guitar, the Tanglewood Roadster TWR 0 12 Acoustic Guitar is compact but as an orchestra model it has a larger body, for a fuller, larger sound, along with a full 650mm scale length and 12 strings.
Orchestra – Small Body, Big Sound
The orchestra model is designed to be compact, with a clear and focussed voice and a high level of projection; the Tanglewood Roadster TWR 0 12 Acoustic Guitar ticks all the boxes here.
For those with a shorter reach, and find dreadnought and other body shapes a little cumbersome, but don’t want to lose the projection that larger bodies are known for producing, this is the solution. It also travels well, so if you have need of a travel guitar that has a large voice, this fills that slot also.
The orchestra shape is bigger than travel models however, and offers a bigger sound than a travel guitar could. It is also more compact than your standard dreadnought shape, so is a lot more manageable for players with a restricted reach as well as being brilliant for traveling with, if you find a travel guitar doesn’t quite do it for you.
The woods selected to construct the Tanglewood Roadster TWR 0 12 are an absolute classic pairing in the world of acoustic guitars, with a spruce top meeting a mahogany body.
With a soundboard made of spruce, you can expect a wide, very usable, tonal palette. The wood itself is quite elastic in nature, which resonates well whilst remaining strong, and provides a focussed, clear sound of deep lows, warm mids, and astute highs. This is balanced out well by the mahogany back and sides of the guitars, as mahogany is denser and produces a richer tone, with emphasised warmth in the mid and low ranges.
Of course, the Tanglewood Roadster TWR 0 12 12-String Acoustic Guitar adds an extra dimension to the sound here, with the doubling up of strings creating the classic 12-string chorus, or shimmer, effect.
Although more compact than your average guitar body, the Tanglewood Roadster TWR 0 12 12-String Acoustic Guitar retains the standard 650mm scale length, so you don’t have to alter your playing style.
The neck is crafted from mahogany and is topped by a rosewood fingerboard, with dot position markers. This rests between a 43mm, ABS nut and an ABS compensated saddle in a rosewood bridge. The headstock is set up with chrome die-cast tuners.
