Details
The Taylor 916ce provides the most luxurious specification in its rosewood catalogue, with a Grand Symphony body shape. Taylor’s approach has always been to employ master luthier craftsmanship, with innovative, cutting edge design and technology. The 916ce is a great example of this. The woods used to construct a guitar are of paramount importance. In the Taylor 916ce, a classic tonewood combination is used, but with some of the best varieties of each constituent part.
The Grand Symphony body is, in many ways, a bigger Grand Auditorium. The larger physical size means a bigger, fuller sound with great projection and power. Though rich and sustaining, this isn’t at the expense of focus. Upper frequencies are open, and detailed with great clarity, and defined, powerful mid-range. Dynamically, this body shape is incredibly dynamic and responsive. This lends itself beautifully to strumming styles, but is equally suited to picking and finger-style. The elegant Venetian cutaway allows for easier access to upper frets.
The back and sides are made from solid Indian rosewood. This tonewood is a favourite among guitar designers, as it offers a mahogany-like tone, but with expanded frequency range. The low-end is deeper and richer, and the upper frequencies are sweeter, smoother and brighter. The resulting tone, is full and warm, but incredible articulation. The long lines of its dramatic grain are a beautiful aesthetic addition to any guitar, too.
This is complemented perfectly by the 916ce’s Sitka spruce top. Providing a supple, sweet tone, with excellent dynamics and articulation, this tonewood is a modern day ‘standard’. Combined with rosewood, it provides an exceptionally balanced tone that is suited to most popular guitar styles, whether strumming, picking or playing finger-style.
The neck is made of tropical mahogany, and finished with an ebony fingerboard and headstock overlay.
Taylor Expression System
The Taylor Expression System is the result of many years of research and development. This all-magnetic pickup and pre-amp system aims to translate the incredible acoustic tone of the guitar into a great, amplified tone.
It achieves this via a Dynamic Body Sensor, Dynamic String Sensor and a discrete pre-amp. Unlike many pre-amp systems, the controls are very uncomplicated. Just volume, tone and bass are equipped, allowing the pick up tone to speak for itself.
Luxurious detailing
Along with the premium materials used in its construction, the Taylor 916ce is furnished with very opulent detailing. The fretboard, bridge and headstock feature the elegant ‘Cindy’ abalone inlay design. Ebony bridge pins each have an inlaid dot.
The body binding is rosewood, with contrasting red band, and with abalone purling on the body top. The sound hole, meanwhile, has bound inner, with simple abalone rosette. This is a guitar whose looks are as refined as its tone.
For those who desire the very best in every detail of a guitar, the Taylor 916ce delivers in spades with a Taylor deluxe brown hard-shell case included.
