With over 50 years of experience in building top quality acoustic guitars, the Yamaha FG series is still the best-selling acoustic series in the world. With these original methods combined with some advanced techniques, the FG840 is born. Yamaha have utilised high caliber materials in the construction of the guitar to ensure a quality sound and striking appearance.
BODY AND BRACING
Yamaha carefully analysed acoustic technologies to find leading, inventive ways of improving the sound and build of a guitar which influenced them in the creation of the FG840. The body top is made from solid spruce, a commonly used tonewood in acoustic body tops as it has a real ability to project in any room. Flamed maple is also known as a valuable material with an eye-catching appearance and Yamaha have employed this in the back and sides. Flamed maple is able to differentiate between one note and another to give you high quality sonic definition.
The FG840 is louder than previous FG models, particularly in pronouncing the low to mid range tones, all thanks to its new scalloped bracing. The bracing sits beneath the soundboard, strengthening the body top and enhancing the overall sound output.
A tough nato neck is joined to the body and is accompanied by a velvety rosewood fingerboard. This neck pairing offers an effortless playing surface, and white dot inlays direct you along the 20 frets allowing you to explore them freely.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
For improved resonance and sustain, Yamaha have fitted a rosewood bridge to the FG840, achieved by keeping a strong connection between the body and strings.
The headstock has die-cast chrome tuners which work tirelessly to retain a constantly accurate tuning, while the cream binding decorates the headstock for a pleasant visual appearance.
Around the soundhole Yamaha have added an abalone, black and white inlay, and a tortoise pattern pickguard protects against scratches.
The FG series is a best-selling range for a reason, and the FG840 is an excellent model that takes on all the well-revered features of classic FG models with the incorporation of fantastic new acoustic technology.
