The Yamaha MG16XU 16-channel mixer is essentially an all-in-one live recording/sound reinforcement tool. The intuitive control panel layout is very easy to get to grips with and the range of onboard audio processing and effects controls means that you needn't carry around external processors - saving you time, and space in your setup. The powder-coated metal chassis is built like a tank. This mixer is an absolute powerhouse that is guaranteed to make your working life much easier.
The MG16XU is home to 16 channels with 10 mic inputs; each mic input features Yamaha's studio-quality discrete class-A "D-PRE" preamps to give the best low-noise/high-gain ratio possible. The exquisitely designed D-PRE preamps utilise an inverted Darlington circuit, which provides incredible power with much lower impedance. Therefore, your signal remains free from interference or noise when you crank up the gain, remaining true to the sound source you're recording . This also saves you having to fix recordings later, ensuring your time in the studio is as efficient as possible.
Every microphone input has switchable +48V Phantom Power to give your condenser mics the juice they need. A very useful Pad switch is on each microphone input too, helping to prevent clipping from high-energy sound sources when miked up. Balanced XLR outputs enable you to output a stereo feed to your monitors with zero latency, and any adjustments you make can be done in real-time.
Recognising the importance of Compression over your live signal mix, Yamaha have developed a 1-knob control, which is an essential feature on the MG16XU. This allows you to add more depth to your drums, tightness to your strings, clean up a vocal mix or create your own FX using compression. For rapid signal shaping, the MG16XU has built-in 3-band EQ on all mono channels, as well as high-pass filters to effectively cut out unwanted low frequencies from the mix. As you'd expect on a high-performance mixing desk, AUX/Effect Sends/Group functions are all present and simple to use. The incredibly powerful built-in SPX Digital Effects - including Reverb and Delay controls – breathing life and character into your mix.
For those who prefer to use their iPad when record, you can output a stereo signal directly to iPad (2 or later) via the USB connection and using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit/Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. This opens up even more opportunities for capturing both live mixes on the road or quickly capturing ideas when recording. Included with the MG16XU is a download version of the powerful Cubase AI DAW to get you up and running straight away.
Whether you’re a pro or an amateur, the MG16XU is designed to simplify the task of processing mic and line signals, adding appropriate EQ and FX, and then feeding the final mix to the desired output. Not only that but the included rack mount allows you to fit this beauty into your setup with the greatest of ease!
