The Yamaha SHS-500 Sonogenic Keytar in Red incorporates features of the guitar and keyboard to make an instrument that gives you the sonic variety of a keyboard with the mobility of a guitar. Originally becoming popular in the 1980s thanks to artists such as Devo and Gary Numan, the Keytar has seen a boost in popularity, being wielded by modern stars such as Lady Gaga and Matt Bellamy of Muse.
The SHS-500 features 30 different Voices for you to play with, from synthesizers to strings to drums all the sounds you'd expect to find on a digital keyboard are present and accounted for, so whether it's Saw Lead or Slap Bass you'll find a voice to match. You get an assortment of Filters, Reverbs, Chorus and other effects to apply to your base sounds, letting you create your own tone.
Weighing less than 1.5kg the SHS-500 is designed to accompany you anywhere, giving you incredible playability in a compact package. It can run on batteries, making it even easier for you to take it on the road with you. 37 expressive mini keys give this Keytar a premium feel and give you an awesome response for fast, accurate and natural-sounding playing.
The SHS-500 also has a unique JAM function that lets you play along with your favourite music. Designed for beginner players you can connect with the Chord Tracker app and play along and the Keytar does that hard work by matching the key of the song so the notes you play will always be in tune.
Control & Connectivity
Taking inspiration from the guitar the SHS-500 Keytar has a neck where the controls for expression are housed. You get Pitch Bend and Modulation wheels alongside an assignable knob that lets you control a wide range of effects, letting you add texture to your performance dynamically. You can also assign effect controls to the modulation wheel if you prefer.
A MIDI terminal lets you connect with an external digital instrument such as a synthesizer, essentially transforming the SHS-500 into a MIDI controller. You can also connect to smart devices wirelessly via Bluetooth MIDI, or a computer via USB giving you two-way audio and MIDI options. A Line Out and Aux In connections ensure flexibility no matter if you're a beginner player or a gigging veteran.
With a raft of connection options and head-turning looks, the Yamaha SHS-500 Sonogenic Keytar in Black is a modern and stylish instrument, giving you freedom of movement and expression in a lightweight package.
