Never miss a take with the Zoom H6 portable digital recorder. This is a shining example of the level of innovation that Zoom manage to cram into small packages. With over 30 years experience of building great-sounding revolutionary equipment, Zoom have done it again with this stunning box of tricks that can handle any recording situation be it professional filming or live instrument and voice capture, the H6 has a torrent of features that will work for you.
To get your desired signal into the HS, there are 4 main inputs on offer as well as the main L + R inputs that can be fed from the included X/Y or MS microphone attachment. All four main H6 inputs (inputs 1-4) are combo connectors that can accept either XLR or 1/4" balanced or unbalanced jack cables. They can handle both mic and line-level signals, which means that you can connect either external microphones or line-level devices like mixers, portable music players, electronic keyboards, or electric guitars or basses with active electronics (passive electric guitars or basses can also be connected with the use of a mixer or effects device). Internal switching contacts automatically detect the circuit of choice. Phantom power is provided from the H6 should you wish to use a high quality condenser mic.
The HS6 is capable of recording audio in both uncompressed WAV and compressed MP3 should you want some extra recording time. All WAV files recorded by the H6 are automatically time-stamped, making them fully compatible with the Broadcast Wave Format (BWF); in other words, they are "BWF-compliant." This is especially important when recording audio for video, because it allows the audio to be precisely synchronized with the onscreen action in post production.
Thanks to the pre-record function the H6 will be silently recording in the background before you start your session, no need to worry about if the interview started a split-second before you were ready or if the conductor lifted his baton just as you were checking a cable, the HS6 will have it captured. The back-up record feature automatically records a -12dB version of what you are recording, this means if your signal clips, you can rely on the backup recording for a better take. Further to this, the selectable auto-record feature will listen out for a signal of a certain volume and start recording once the threshold is exceeded and stop once the level becomes lower.
The H6 contains an arsenal of effects that allow you to add polish to your recordings and compensate for any problems or limitations in the acoustics of the chosen recording environment. A low-cut filter allows you to remove signal below a certain user-designated frequency. This is useful for eliminating pops, wind noise, blowing, transmitted resonance from an onstage mic stand and other kinds of low frequency rumble. Compression and limiting compensate for fluctuations in level.
There's no limit to the ways that you can use the H6 - Live recording, location based videography, ENG work, audio interface studio based recording and much more. The intuitive and easy to use interface will help make you quality recordings come alive, a complete portable recording studio in your pocket.
